There are many ways to magically protect yourself. Wards, protective circles, crystals, charm bags, herbs, and shields are only a few. I have a few other posts concerning this, but you can never have too many protection info, in my opinion. Most of my own protections were done using energy work, and those are the methods we will talk about today. We’ll cover protective circles first.
Protective circles are a temporary protection employed around a certain place. It protects everything inside of it. It’s normally used for spirit communication, spells, rituals, and even as a quick form of cleansing. There are many ways to put up a protective circle. The first way is a physical way. Sometimes during my rituals, I spread my protective herbal mixture on the ground in a circle. It’s salt-free, so I can safely use it outside, too. You can also plant a circle of mushrooms, a circle of rocks/crystals, a circle of branches, etc. Many people also use energy in combination with the physical circle, though, including me. The physical circle acts as a boundary that you set. When I spread my herbs, I then go around the circle a second time and charge the herbs with energy so that their protective qualities will be activated and form an impenetrable circle around me. You do not have to have a physical circle to put up a circle, though. You can make one purely using energy work. Keep in mind, though, that the energetic boundary might be shaky the first few times you do it if you don’t have some kind of physical boundaries already set.
My favorite way to set up a circle of protection is to create an energy ball inside myself. You make it as dense as you possibly can, while still making it hollow. Then you throw your intent into the ball. Tell it that you want it to protect you and the space around you. Make sure to verbally set boundaries for it though, like the walls of your room. It won’t be a perfect circle if you do that, but it will still be a place of protection. After you throw all your intents at the ball, “blow” on it and visualize it expanding to fill the boundaries you have set for it.
You can also use protective circles during energy work to help keep your energies inside so they aren’t acting like a beacon for any nearby spirits. All you have to do to create a protective circle for a specific purpose is tell the energy ball what you want it to do. The energy, as it is yours, will understand you and do so.
Shields. These, rather than being a temporary form of protection set up around a place, are a semi-permanent form of protection set up around a person, namely, you. Empaths frequently use shields, to help protect them against the overwhelming emotions of others. You can also use shields to help protect others from you. When doing energy work there is always a possibility that you’ll start leaking and attract spirits. Another potential side effect of leaking energy is affecting the people around you. I don’t expect any of you will run into this problem for some time but you should know it does happen. That is why I am teaching this lesson; so that you can protect yourself and others from some potentially weird and dangerous side-effects of energy work. Shields function not only to keep certain types of energy (as well as mental attacks, etc) out, but it can also serve to keep your energy in.
When I was having problems a few years ago with fluctuating energy levels, my friends started to become more spiritually awake as a result. Just by being around me they were gaining new abilities and it scared them. It scared me. Once I got it under control, most of their abilities faded with time. It was crazy. I tell you this so you know. It happens. It’s not something to be afraid of, but it is a sign you need to get yourself under control.
To make a shield, you can use the same bubble method I spoke of before. Only, instead of setting boundaries with your intent, you can instead tell your bubble that it needs to protect you and only you, and it should move with you. You can shield your entire energy system, you can shield your mind, you can shield your body. It really just matters what your use is. You can shield your emotions, even.
Another common form of protection is wards. A ward is sort of like a combined version of a shield and a protective circle. There are many, many different ways to create a ward, but since this is an energy work lesson I’ll be talking about how to create a ward using energy.
You do not have to use your own energy to create a ward. In fact, you probably don’t have enough energy on your own to power one. Not yet, anyway. Creating a ward is much more complicated than a protective circle or a shield since it is permanent until you take it down. You have to write out everything you want the ward to do before-hand. These are called the “boundaries”. You also want to pre-determine what your sources for the ward will be. Mine are sourced from my spirit companions, various elements, and myself. You can also use deities and natural resources, such as rain or the sun or moon. Or all of the above.
The reason that they’re a bit more complex is that, in order to have these outside energy sources power your ward, you have to channel them. And, of course, ask their permission. It’s potentially dangerous to channel too much energy at once, so I recommend starting with one type of energy at a time, possibly two if you’ve tried one already and think you can handle it. But before we talk about channeling energy (which will be covered in a separate lesson), let me walk you through creating a purely energetic ward. Keep in mind that this is only the way I do this.
There are many kinds of rules you can include in your wards. I’m about to show you a few of my own old ones (they’ve been revamped.) NEVER show your ward’s current rules to anyone, unless you want them having the ability to take them down. If someone knows how you made your ward it is extremely easy to un-create it.
The sources (the types of energy I channeled to create this ward. Please do not attempt this many): Earth, Water, Fire, Air, [4 different spirit companions whose names I will not share], and myself.
The rules:
1. This is a ward. Any being that tries to forcefully enter my ward will be sapped of their own energy.
2. No being may enter my ward unless they are specifically invited. Once they leave, they will have to ask permission to enter again.
3. [I named the beings that were able to enter my ward] are allowed to enter/leave my ward at any time unless I say otherwise.
4. The ward will injure, eat, and forcefully expel any being that tries to enter the ward without permission. The ward will take 15% of [my and my spirit companions’] energy before failing and letting the intruder(s) inside, where they will be trapped until I personally expel them. The elements will contribute however much energy they are willing.
5. I can temporarily let any being enter the ward by saying, “I accept [(name) into my ward]”
6. Negative energy will be continuously expelled from and deflected by my ward.
7. Any curses or hexes cast on any member of my family, including me, will be reflected back at the castor(s).
8. [My spirit companions] can all add their own protective spells to strengthen this ward, but cannot change any of the existing rules.
9. My own energy cannot leave the ward unless I specifically will it to do so.
10. The ward will be rooted to my house [my address]. A small part of the ward will break off and come with me or [my mother] any time we leave the house, physically or spiritually, and will return to the ward rooted at [my address] when we re-enter it.
11. I can change these rules at any time. This is an old set of rules. I encourage you to make your own, but I’m showing you these so that you can see the degree of specificity that is required. Name all full names, all addresses, any time you are referencing them… or define reference names for them. Also, keep in mind that this is just an energy ward. There are simpler wards out there but many do require that you define a very specific set of rules. I had to fix my vocabulary on a lot of these rules, too.
I’ll be going more in-depth into all of these methods and more in later lessons, so don’t feel too lost if you don’t understand any of this now. Also, don’t feel pressured to try and attempt any of these at this point, although you can if you want to. The worst that can go wrong in a protective spell is that it doesn’t work, at this point (although I’d hold off on attempting a ward for the moment).
