I’ve got an ongoing list of things to do with a blank notebook or journal (because I can’t stop buying them), and I’ve pulled out the ones that I think might be of interest to magical, witchy, or pagan types. Hopefully, if you guys find yourselves stuck in front of that first blank page, there’ll be something here to inspire you!
Some of these examples have links or descriptions to further elaborate on what I pictured when I put them on the list, but don’t feel boxed in by any of these! Always feel free to think outside of the box.
🎃
Magical Journal YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS :’))
👻
Dream Journal
🎃
Psychic Journal
[1][2] Keep a record of your insights, premonitions and predictions. Be sure to make a note of when you’re right!
👻
Prayer/Chant Journal Even if you don’t write your own, having the ones you enjoy all in one place makes a great reference.
🎃
Meditation Journal [1][2] Journaling can be a form of meditation in and of itself, but you can also keep track of your meditation experiences or just log when you do it. If you’re doing guided meditations, you can list which ones you used as well.
Personal Almanac Make a personal, customized version of the magical almanacs or planners that get released every year.
🎃
Collect Truth Write down the things you agree with. why do you agree? Decide what’s true, or what feels true. If you can, include things that you don’t actually agree with, but you still think are true – that’s a fun thing to contemplate.
👻
Collect Lies I actually started keeping track of the false beliefs I’d either told myself or had been told, and perhaps a little more tricky – things I see others telling each other that I don’t agree with. Feel free to talk about why you have decided these are lies. And look back every now and then to see if you still agree with yourself.
🎃
Formulas Write down your favourite (or even experimental!) recipes for oils, incenses, inks, or whatever else you’ve got going in the cauldron so that you don’t forget how to make them.
Recipe Book Invaluable for a kitchen witch, especially if you’re keeping track of the magical effects of certain recipes!
👻
Book Exercise Journal Almost every book and every course suggests keeping a journal for it to record your progress, do the assignments, et cetera.
🎃
Spelled Book Turn each page into a spell! Rip it out or otherwise engage with the page to use it.
👻
Spirit Dossiers If you work with spirits, keep profiles of their personalities, likes, dislikes, interactions with them, et cetera.
🎃
Charger Book Imbue pages with a magical signature, leave objects on page to charge them.
👻
Book of Spreads I’ve got two spread books – one book has my own spreads, and one book has spreads from other people that I’ve liked. It’s beyond helpful to keep track of these somewhere in case you ever want to use them again, or share them with a friend!
🎃
Good Advice from Other Witches

(Witchy) Things To Do With A Blank Notebook Keep your own list! When you’re not sure what to do with your next blank notebook, see what stands out on the list and try it out! 🔮
Ok so imagine your fantasy setting with your typical giant spiders.
Ok, now imagine that these spiders have largely been domesticated for their incredibly valuable silk. They help make clothes, rope, textiles, even ARMOR. They’re almost treated like carnivorous cows in the regions that can support them. They might even name these girls the classic names like “Bessie”. They’re great mothers and produce many young; useful for trade and… even food if you like The Crunch.
People in this world are hardly afraid of big spiders the same as we’re hardly afraid of big dogs. Wary of wild ones, but not scream and cry terrified. Smaller spiders…it depends. Would you be scared if you suddenly saw a tiny cow crawling on your wall? The only type of spider people collectively fear are the hunting types: the ones that don’t spin webs, and instead attack their prey with brute force and a much stronger venom.
These large domestic spiders are incredibly lazy. They’ll sit in their webs and wait for their handlers to put their food on the web. Unless you get tangled, they don’t see you as food. This makes them great guards as well. They build traps for you. The venom isn’t deadly to humans…but can still be used as a weapon or in medicine. They’re just so damn useful that millennia ago, people put aside their instinctual fear just to get those sweet benefits.
Thank you for attending my TedTalk.
All of y’all replying to this like “UMM DROW” “what about DROW” are missing the point
Of course I thought of Drow, but I don’t want giant spiders reserved for a society of (generally) evil edgy elves living a spider themed life.
I want giant spiders to be COMMON domestic creatures, as much as they are a common fantasy monster. A case in which giant spiders are just so useful to have around that they are kept by dwarves/humans/elves/whomever you want this flavor to go to, and they cease being this creepy thing because at the end of the day they’re still just animals…but big.
((Also just to clarify; I would actually find a tiny cow crawling along my wall to be unsettling.))
a character’s favorite vehicle, technology, coat, etc.
a pleasant night
hair, skin tone, clothing, etc. of a good person
undisturbed water of a lake
the case/container of something important
valued wood, furniture, art
velvet
Think to burn, to infect, to bleach vs. to enrich, to protect, to be of substance.

the politics of light and dark are everywhere in our vocabulary…psa to writers: subvert this, reveal whiteness and lightness as sometimes artificial and violent, and darkness as healing, the unknown as natural
“The truth finds more comfort in the dark”
“The light can blind as easily as the dark conceals. The dark can protect as easily as the light guides. Neither are pure good nor evil, pure chaos nor order. The light and dark just are.”
i’ve seen a lot of people suggesting some spells for glamours/beauty magic that can actually cause breakouts or chemical burns! i’m not a dermatologist or a doctor, but here’s my personal advice on what to avoid, why, and alternatives.
witch hazel: witch hazel is almost always preserved with alcohol, which is actually terrible for facial skin. it can cause breakouts, dry skin, and even skin flakiness. alternatives: green tea and rose water are good natural astringent substitutes. just make sure if you’re making your own rosewater that your roses are nice & pesticide-free! (x)
sugar/salt & cinnamon scrubs: tempting as it is to use those body scrub recipes on our faces, sugar and salt particles are too large for good exfoliation and may cause micro-abrasions on the skin as well as being ineffective. cinnamon is the same. alternative: use a chemical exfoliant! 5% lactic acid solution is one option; it’s great for sensitive skin & is very gentle. (here’s some sold by the ordinary). (x)
coconut oil: it might moisturize well on the body, but on the face it is comedogenic, meaning it can clog your pores! alternatives: try a different natural oil instead, like hempseed oil or argan oil. this post has some good information about naturally moisturizing oils. (x)
undiluted essential oils: these can have an irritating effect on sensitive skin, and if you go too crazy it might even cause chemical burns. alternatives: just dilute any of your essential oils before use! (x)
white vinegar: it will mess up the ph balance of your face, which can (again) cause breakouts. alternatives: try diluted tea tree oil for acne. (x)
the x’s link to sources about the negative effects.
feel free to add to this post, and if there’s any misinformation, let me know. good luck, witches, and be radiant!
Maybe a little ridiculous, but I’m adding garlic to this – several years ago I saw tons of people recommending garlic as a spot treatment (?????). In one of my not-so-bright moments, I tried it and gave myself a nasty chemical burn (I still have a scar 5+ years later). Please think things through a little better than I did and don’t put raw garlic on your skin!!(????!!!!) Just get a spot treatment from the drug store or something, seriously
There IS some witch hazel that is alcohol free & it works incredibly well (on my combonation skin)!!!!!!!!!!! I forget what brand, but you can get it at most Walmarts!!!!
It’s totally okay to say “you know what, this isn’t making me happy” and to walk away from whatever or whoever is keeping you from the happiness you deserve
i don’t mean to sound fake deep but the reason 2018 felt so long was because we’re being fed what’s trending at such a rapid rate that we literally can’t remember half of the shit that even happened anymore. “Black Panther came out in February!” Marvel releases so many movies a year that we completely forget about the last movie as soon as a new one comes out and it repeats in a vicious cycle. “Tide Pods/Ugandan Knuckles was in January!” The life span of memes have been rapidly declining for years and it’s gotten to the point where the average lifespan of a meme is about 2 weeks and then the next thing gets popular and then that lasts for 2 weeks and it just keeps going. We’re literally losing our sense of time because of our rapid consumption of media and pop culture.
i love that like 50% of the responses on this post are just Marvel fans that are angry that i said that they release too many movies a year (also purposefully ignoring the Fox and Sony movies because those do count) instead of my overall point
You never see classical inspired sculptures with POC.. So this is really something to me. Absolutely beautiful.
