that is hilarious!

@why-animals-do-the-thing is this owl actually happy?

Multiple people with professional bird experience that I’ve spoken with believe so! One noted that a some birds get so “into the scritch” that at times they will lose their balance or cease being aware of their surroundings (as you can see in this video) but that we don’t really know why. It looks like this owl was having a super good scratch, ended up leaning a little farther back that the human was in a good position to support, lost his balance, and recovered. It’s all good and yes, actually cute.

(It’s worth noting, of course, that this is an interaction that can only occur because the person has a strong history with the owl and a lot of previously developed trust. This isn’t something you should ever consider doing with an owl you don’t know and haven’t been trained to work with.)

The Bird Tarot – Complete Major Arcana

FAQs

Will you print the Bird Tarot?

Hopefully. I plan to kickstart it, but only once I’ve completed all the art, I don’t want the pressure of completing art as well as product production and fundraising.

How do I get updates on the Bird Tarot?

Stick around, give this Tumblr a follow. There’s 4 suits to come, that’s a lot of art to enjoy.

What do all the bird choices mean?

I’ll probably write an ebook to go with the tarot deck, but like with any Tarot, they mean what you feel they mean.

Why haven’t you done X bird? I think it would be a better fit for Y Card.

I chose these birds because they’re all British, or migrate through Britain. A lot of them have personal connections to me in some way, and some just fit the cards. It’s my deck I chose what I felt fit right.

When do you think you’ll have the art done by?!!

I can’t say. I don’t get paid for any of these illustrations so I still have paid artwork to do in the meantime. I will release each suit in a group when they’re complete until I’m done.

If you want to support the Bird Tarot you can donate to my Ko-Fi or buy a Digital Print and that will give me more freedon to do more directly unpaid work like the Bird Tarot.

lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.

Too bad Lahore pigeons are a domestic breed and don’t appear in the wild at all.
Some equally balanced wild colorations include

Pygmy Falcon

Great Hornbill

Wallcreeper

and

Black-throated Loon

this is a good addition to this post. thank you for this birds educations

I would like to submit the following additions to the world of exceptional bird color design:

Cedar Waxwing

Red Crowned Crane

Brahminy Kite

Green Tree Swallow (I mean seriously – those are metallic teal feathers against stark white. Damn.)

Bali Mynah

And, last but certainly not least, the cutest fucking puffball on this planet earth:

The Korean Crow-Tit

I’d also like to contribute some pretty awesome birds

Hooded Pitta (or as like to call them little olives)

Coua

Mot-Mot

The Blue Crown Pigeon (the biggest pigeon)

@candiceirae

I’m fond of the Golden Breasted Starling,

the Golden Pheasant,

and the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher.

I take your well-designed bird palettes and I raise you

The European Bee-eater

I feel personally attacked that the blue footed booby is on here

Look at them

They’re absolutely ridiculous!

The deeper the blue the more likely females are gonna dig them!

here’s a close up of their feet!
