Are you in a dorm or other place where you can’t burn candles, but the healing spell asks for a blue candle? Use washi tape to turn your electric candle into a blue one! Do you want to burn a rose candle on your Aphrodite altar but you’re not allowed an open flame? Well, it doesn’t smell like roses but it’s pretty and has pink flowers!
Do you want the tealight in forest-themed travel altar to match the rest of the aesthetic? Washi tape!
Washi tape is removable, so you can keep changing the colour to whatever you need. And you can write on it, so instead of carving candles, you can draw your sigils or runes on the tape!
This is gonna be a spell-chart type post for candle magick. I’m gonna list a BUNCH of different intents and then colors, moon phases, planetary influences/hours, and candle shapes that all work beautifully together. Keep in mind this is not a set in stone how-to, just my grimoires list.
You can use a candle with multiple colors or multiple different candles. You may also anoint your candle with an oil that corresponds with your intent. Inscribe your intent into your candle in Theban alphabet and inscribe any symbols/sigils you would like to use as well. I like to inscribe the planets symbol(s) as well, just cuz.

Samhain is coming fast and, to celebrate, here’s a quick recipe to make your own celebrating candle.
What you’ll need :
🎃 A Pumpkin / Pumpkin Spice Candle or wax
🎃 Coffee Candle or wax
🎃Ground Coffee
🎃 Apple and Cinnamon wax/flavor
🎃Nutmeg
🎃The candle Kit of your choice (whatever mold, jar, wicks or size you wish)
1. Melt all the waxes into a designated melting pot (make sure it’s only for candles because i won’t be responsible if it causes food poisoning)
2. As it melts, sprinkle some grinded coffee into the mix (just eyeball it)
3. Grate some nutmeg into the mix.
4. Pour your mix into whatever mold or jar you want your candle to be.
5. Wait for it to cool down, look if you need more wax and you are done!
As Samhain begins, this candle will have a multitude of properties.
The pumpkin will be able to grant wishes, bring love, prosperity and fertility. Plus, if you crave either a face unto it or a sigil, it will also bring protection to your home.
The coffee will dispel nightmares, encourages hard work, removes internal blockages, and infuses intentions with stamina.
The mix of apple and cinnamon will bring Love, fidelity, fertility, marriage, sexuality, beauty, vanity, wisdom, personal & spiritual power, spirituality, healing, success/victory, protection, love, luck, lust, strength, and prosperity. Some even believe that the apple can bring immortality.
The nutmeg encourages luck, money, health, fidelity.
Note: Always make more than you think you need. I had added even more way to my pillar candle because it was creating a crevice as it cooled down.
These are good for rituals, scent or the aesthetic of it. Perfect custom altar additions, made just the way you like it.
What you will need:
-candles or candle wax
-herbs/flowers of your choice
-a spoon
-a heavy book
-a clothing iron
-parchment paper
Optional;
-essential oils
-food colouring
1. The first thing you want to do is gather herbs and flowers to put in your candle, whether it be for a spell, or ritual or for the scent or aesthetic of it.
2. The herbs must be dry herbs, you can dry them yourself if you like. Pick the flowers of your choice (make sure to dry out any excess moisture)
3. To press/dry the flowers (or leaves), you must press them between two pieces of parchment paper in a heavy book for 15-20 minutes, and then to dry them, run a clothing iron over the paper, keep checking on the flowers to make sure they are not burning so that they do not lose color. Once they are stiff and dry, they’re ready to go.
4. You can use wax chips/blocks or you can melt up an old candle. (BONUS: match the color of the wax to your intent (or add food colouring)).
5. Optional: add essential oils, match the scent to your intent if you wish.
6. Then pour the wax into a glass or mould of your choice, holding the wick in place manually or with a clip until the wax is COMPLETELY DRY.
7. Once the wax is dry, remove it from the mould .
8. Hold an old metal spoon over a flame to heat it. Using this spoon press the flowers into the wax, pressing as deep or as shallow as you like and you can move wax over bits of herb/flower to create your desired effect.
VIOLA! You have a goregeous looking and wonderful smelling candle, full of herbs with magickal attributes, which can be activated through lighting the wick.
Candles are widely used in rituals, and candle magick is great for new and experienced witches alike. The use of them in your own practice will help you keep focused on your dreams!
Color changing electronic candles are a cheap and easy way to have every color candle you need for your spells! They can range from $10-$20 for a set like these.
You could even carve sigils into them, or use sharpies / dry-erase markers to draw them on.
You can make these very easily at home! They’re great for any witches fond of the ocean, deity offerings, glamour spells, and they’re cheap too!
⭐️sea shells ⭐️tea light candles ⭐️essential oil (optional) ⭐️colored wax melts (optional) ⭐️mica powder (optional, not in the picture, but I use it when I make these!)
Put your tea lights on a hot plate or on a pan over low heat, gently let them melt. Once the wax is melted, take out the wick + wick base and place it standing up in your shell. If you wish you can add a drop or two of your scented oil of choice, color, or mica to make it sparkle. carefully pour your wax mixture into the shell and wait for it to set.
I do work with candles (even though I’m not suppose to >-> shhhh) all the time! I love them. So the first thing you should know about working with candles is that you need to practice proper fire safety. Fire is dangerous, even if it is from a small candle, I have heard of many witches harming themselves due to accidental neglect.
Always tie back your hair if it is longer than your jaw, you don’t want to catch it on fire
Keep a bowl of salt or sand near you at all times. Water can work when its just a candle but if you anoint a candle with oils and that catches on fire you DO NOT want to throw water on that. I always keep a bowl of salt near me to throw onto any out of control fire
Practice with a window open, if the candle flares or burns something it will help get the smoke out much faster and prevent the fire alarms from going off
If you are going to burn something via the candle, place it in a fire safe container to burn, don’t hold it!
always burn candles in candle holders, wax is a bitch to clean up
if you do ever spill wax on your clothing or carpet put newspaper over it and use an iron or hair dryer to slowly bring it up out of the carpet/fabric and into the newspaper. it can take a while though sometimes
Never leave candles burning when you are not home or in the room.
When anointing candles never anoint the top near the fuse, this can lead to oil fires or flares
Some witch tips for using fire/candle:
use color correspondences that go with your intent (you can find plenty on my blog)
using scented candles work great when the scents go with your intent!
Carve sigils, words or images into candles to let them melt away to activate them
You can buy candles cheap at the dollar store or at craft stores like Michael’s in the clarence section
tea lights work great for spells too and are very affordable
You can make your own candles to customize your spells by matching herbs, scents, oils and colors when making them
You can use seashells, acorn caps and other things for fun custom candle holders and to help with your intent
Use old candle wax in spells and color magick
Use the smoke from an blown out candle for enchanting, cleansing and charming objects
White candles are the universal replacement candle. It can be used in place of any scented or colored candles in a pinch
charge candles in the sun or moon for added effects
Place crystals around a candle to charge it with the crystals’ correspondences to help you with your intent
use candles to burn sigils or words on paper to release your intent into the world (do it safely please)

Sparkly tea-lights!
All you need is a wax warmer, some plain tea-lights and glitter.
1) Slid wax out of metal base, cut wax – saving the wick and base!
2) Melt color of choice (I use leftovers from other candles)
3) Pour a thin layer – add glitter.
4) Add wick!
5) Repeat pouring and glittering process until close to top. For final layer add a bunch of glitter because glitter ✨
