Some of us have breathing issues or parents/roommates who can’t be around burning stuff, and some people (like me) just have parents/roommates who don’t like the ashes and such left so…
1. Clean! And I mean really clean. Take all those dirty dishes back to the kitchen, take that rotting banana out of your unused backpack (I’m looking at myself there), do your laundry, and then really get in there! Dust, vacuum, do whatever you gotta do.
2. Open your windows during the rain! (Make sure you set up some plastic or such so you don’t get everything wet) I just really love the rain and there’s something so cleansing about it.
3. Get a essential oil diffuser!! I love these, and you can find oils at almost every grocery store just in case you don’t have a local witchy shop. Most of mine are from Wal-mart! (Remember that some oils are not for consumption or skin contact if they’re cheaper. Always read the backs before using them in those ways).
4. Meditate in the center of your space and really visualize all of the bad leaving and washing away. Use crystals if you like! Leave your room filled with bright, beautiful and uplifting energy 🙂
5. Perform! Read a piece of poetry or prose you love out loud. Give a little concert in your room for just your dog and stuffed animals! Dance your heart out. Just do something that helps you vent in a creative and constructive way! It leaves you and the space around you feeling lighter.
So there are times when I want to use a witchy oil blend (like my positivity oil) on jewelry or an item of some kind, but I don’t actually want to rub oil on it for one reason or another. Like this ring has a plastic gem, and plastic and essential oils aren’t friends. So…
Get yourself a container that closes (shoe box, small jewelry box, jar, a coffee mug flipped upside down over the item, etc)
Place item in container
Get a cotton swab (I broke mine in half because it doesn’t fit in my little shell box whole)
Dip cotton swab in your oil of choice
Place cotton swab in container with item
Close container
That’s it. You can leave it overnight, or leave it for three days, or leave it out under the moon, whatever the hell you feel like or think is necessary. Say a chant, write some runes on the stick of the cotton swab, fold up a paper with your intent written on it, do none of the above… idk, it’s your craft. As usual, you do you, boo.

So the first things I made were white vinegar sprays, I made two kinds: -Rosemary and Sage -Thyme and Sage
Both have a 2:1 ratio of white vinegar and water and both have a peel and a half of lemon and about two table spoons of sea salt each.
I cleansed the jars with water, then sage smoke, stuffed the herbs and lemon in, sprinkled in the salt, then poured hot water and vinegar in. Give em a shake and charge how you like as you go! I like to mentally say what I want from each item as I place them in the jar.
Let them sit for about a week then strain into a spray bottle and clean some shit. They’re also good for defunking carpets and throw pillows, just spray and let dry in the sun!
The second thing I made was baking soda, salt, and lavender scrub with a lemon vinegar water spray! This one you don’t have to wait to use, just mix it up and go! I used:
– 2-3 cups baking soda ( I just dumped a bunch in eye baling how much I think I might need) – 1-1.5 cups of table salt – Half a cup of non-food grade lavender
I set my intentions as I poured each ingredient in then mixed em up with a good shake. I cleaned my whole bathroom with this one jar and as you can see in the above picture, I still have enough left for touch ups or I can use it on my bedroom carpet. You just sprinkle the mix on the floor, let it sit for a while, then vacuum it up!
And this shit works, here’s my dirty ass tub before:
I sprayed the vinegar down then shook the scrub all over, let sit, then using a scouring pad I cleaned it off and then rinsed it with hot water from the shower and BOOM:
LOOK AT THAT.
I also poured some in the toilet, on the toilet brush, the sink, the floor, basically everywhere. When I was all done I burned some sage and have a beautiful clean bathroom without the smell of bleach in my nose! Yay!
This meditation can help you create a healthy abode. This is also a powerful meditation to repeat if your living environment regularly produces toxicity, like due to a troubling partner, being cooped up at home with restrictive parents, or if your home was a location of past trauma. It will also protect your living environment against negativity that comes in, whether it is in the form of negative energy others bring in, or (if this is part of your belief)—malevolent spirits, curses, and anything else you perceive as negative.
Unlike some previous Monday Mindfulness blogs, this meditation doesn’t require a weekly commitment. All you need to do is read this blog and try it once to feel the full shift in your living environment. On my website there are even some general “energetic upkeep” techniques that take only a few seconds to enact (and the whole blog article is there).
ROOM CLEANSING MEDITATION
First, find a quiet space and time and become settled. For this meditation it’s best to be seated in the center of the room that you wish to cleanse. If you intend to do a whole home, sit either in the largest room or sit in a central location in your home. Some people also find that this meditation is effective while standing, but you’ll want to make sure you can manage that for 5-10 minutes if you try the practice in a standing position. Laying down is also possible, but sitting tends to be a bit easier to focus during this specific meditation.
Close your eyes and practice some deep breathing in a way that best gets you ready to focus and enact an intention. At this point, you can also set your intention, perhaps saying an affirmation like “This meditation will cleanse, purify, and protect my living environment,” or “After this meditation, only energy and actions that are in my best and highest interest can exist in this space.”
Once you fully trust this intention and feel like you have reached a place of focus, you can begin the meditation. Even if your focus slips (as this istotally natural), just return back to where you left off in the meditation. It will work simply because you are acting on it, you don’t need to be a guru to have a significant effect on the energy of your environment.
Focus on the center of your abdomen, where your solar plexus chakra is. If you don’t regularly do chakra work, just focus on the strongest point in your abdomen, usually just beneath the ribs and above the belly-button. Here, imagine a bright golden, yellow, or white light forming. Feel like it is both loving and powerful, perhaps even fiery.
Ask the Universe, or your chosen Higher Power, to help fuel this energy and grow it. If neither works for you to imagine, trust completely in the infinite power of your individual self. With your eyes still closed, viewing through your mind’s eye, watch the sphere of light expand from this center.
Completely trust that the light will expand, no matter what you are feeling or thinking. It is an entity of its own, completely fueled by your intention to purify your space. As you watch, you know that this light will wholly cleanse and protect your space. It burns away all negativity and remains as a bright force to prevent anything negative from coming in.
As this light expands and begins to touch the walls of your room or home, imagine it sticking to the walls, melding to their shape and growing extremely bright. It’s almost like the light is becoming one with the walls, leaving all of the space in the center of the light (like where you are) pure and filled with positive energy.
When you visualize the light pressed against all the walls, floors, and ceilings, you can seal this light in place. During this, you can ask that this light remain here indefinitely, powered by the Universe itself, and that your final act is simply to consecrate this light into place.
To do this, visualize a bright line of light along the corners and connections between the planes of walls, ceilings and floors. For instance, picture the corner of your room, where two walls and the ceiling meet, and visually draw a line of light down from this ceiling and wall junction to the floor and wall junction, vertically below it. Then trace this light along where the floor and wall meet, and continue this throughout the space.
As this light is traced, trust that it binds the original golden or white light to the space you are in. Even if you lose focus or can’t fully picture the light around you, it still works because you set this intention for it to do so.
When you feel that you have sealed this into place entirely (even if you miss a spot, it won’t damage the meditation, the light can work autonomous of your intention), focus back on your own body. Picture yourself sitting in this space filled with warm light, bathing you in positivity. If you feel like it, stay with this part of the meditation as long as you like. It’s incredibly healing and rejuvenating.
When you finish the above step, focus on your body as you currently inhabit it, starting to return back to the conscious you have as you regularly go about your day. Perhaps wiggle your fingers and toes, roll your shoulders, and flutter your eyes gently open.
As with all visual meditation, take a second before jumping up from your seat. Stay with how you feel for a moment, then when you feel connected and grounded again, you can get up, knowing that your living environment is pure and safe!
I’ve found that this meditation is the most effective when practiced monthly, while living in a generally positive and regular apartment. When living with others, specifically someone that brings in toxicity, it might serve you to do this more often. Also, when moving to a new location, this is best done on your first day there, to purify the energy of any previous owners and to energetically claim the space as your own safe abode.
An easy way to rid any clinging energy from your crystals is to pass them through a stream of incense smoke. Not only does this method also cleanse your space, but you can re-charge your crystals for a new purpose at the same time. We recommend using frankincense for basic cleansing, benzoin resin for bringing calm, and dragon’s blood for increasing energy vibrations.
2. Dip them in charged water.
Place them in a bowl of water charged under the full moon, or submerge them in a naturally running stream to send negative energies away. In the winter, crystals can be buried in the snow for a few hours with the same effect. Water is a powerful energy-force and giver of life, well suited to cleansing people and tools alike. Make note that this method is not suitable for porous or metallic crystals.
3. Cover them in sea salt.
Take a container made of a natural substance (like glass, wood, ceramic) and fill the bottom with sea salt. Add in your crystals, then cover with more salt. Wait at least one day, then take them out and they’re ready to use. Salt is one of the greatest energy purifiers out there, and it’s also easy and cheap to come by. Sea salt is preferred because the most natural and absorptive type of salt.
4. Let them bathe in the moonlight.
The simplest (and safest) way to cleanse your beauties is to let them soak up the purifying energy of the moonlight. Lay them out on the night of the full moon where the soft, purifying glow of the moonlight can illuminate them, then bring them inside come morning. Placing them on a window sill with moonlight is a suitable alternative if you cannot place them outdoors.
shuffle – shuffle your cards for some time with cleansing intent.
sort the cards – put the cards back in the order of the major arcana from 0-21, wands, cups, swords, and then pentacles. let them stay like this for a short while, until you feel they’re cleansed, and then shuffle them again.
crystals – choose a crystal with your intent and place it on top of your deck, or create a crystal grid around it.
smoke cleansing – pass your deck through the smoke of burnt sage or rosemary, or through the smoke from insense.
sunlight/moonlight – natural light sources give healing energies to your deck. sunlight is more masculine, while moonlight is more feminine. keep this in mind when choosing a light source and what’s best for your deck.
meditation – meditate on the cards. this may be one card at a time or the whole deck at once.
yoga – do yoga with your deck, this will soothe and cleanse you both and create a stronger bond between you and your deck.
sound – use a song, a bell, or an instrument to wash vibrations over and through your deck to release energy.
salt – sprinkle salt gently over your deck or put your deck in an airtight bag and submerge it in a bowl of salt and let the salt absorb pent up energies.
sigils – write a cleansing sigil on a slip of paper and put it in the box or bag with your deck.
fresh air – set your deck on a windowsill by a cracked open window. allow the movement of fresh air to cleanse the pent up energy from your cards.
close contact – keep your deck beside or under your pillow as you sleep to both cleanse and build a close relationship with your deck.
when to cleanse:
brand new deck – if you bought or have been gifted a new or secondhand deck, the best way to sort out its energy is to cleanse it before the first use.
after each use – this is the best way to upkeep the health of your cards.
every day – a great way to take care of your cards, routine cleansing is a wonderful daily ritual for you and your deck.
when someone else touches it – energies can get muddled when someone other than the reader touches a deck.
after a complicated reading – your deck can run out of energy quickly when you ask it to do a complcated reading, and the best way to replenish these energies is to cleanse.
after not using it for a while – stagnant energies will build up in your deck if you go a while between uses. the best way to counteract this is a thorough cleansing.
with your life cycles – whether moon cycles, menstrual cycles, or sleep cycles, cleansing your deck when your energy is high can be a good idea.
whenever your deck tells you – sometimes you will be able to feel when your deck needs to be cleansed. a good cleansing and recharging is helpful when shuffling becomes difficult, you’re getting the same cards repeatedly, or you feel your deck run low on energy.
