Salts – Magikal Properties

honeycoyote:

Whether it is black salt, sea salt, pink salt or just plain old. Salt has a long history of use in rituals, purification, blessings and magical protection. Salt is created and thrives in the Ocean  (or the Womb of the Goddess) It is the taste of Earth in the waters of life. salt is a amazing and versatile natural source for cleansing, and  is a must have for anyone.

Regular Sea Salt – sea salt is overall very common, easy to obtain and affordable. It can be bought in either course chunks or fine like sand. White salt is associated with purification, purity, protection and blessings.

 image

  • Used in consecration
  • Placed in water to cleanse it
  • Purification, cleansing and removal or negative energies,
  • Can be placed around areas to protect them
  • Commonly used in circles
  • Used in Curses
  • Can be made into salt scrubs

Celtic Sea Salt– is a “moist” unrefined sea salt that is usually found on the coastal areas of France. It has a gorgeous light grey, almost light purple color; it is harvested from the clay found in salt flats. This salt has similar properties to regular sea salt however because it is a much more natural and pure salt its properties are enhanced especially protective and cleansing. It also tastes amazing and is filled with vital minerals, I also find that since it is moist it clumps together nicely making it easy to work with and shape.

  • Purification, cleansing and removal of negative energies,
  • protective spells
  • blessings
  • curses
  • soothing
  • great for cooking
  • medicinal
  • perfect in bath scrubs

Black Salt- black salt is as the title says black or very dark in color. It is commonly available at magic shops, and is also very easy to make. Not to be confused with black lava salt or kala namak salts used in fine cuisine.RITUAL BLACK SALT IS NOT FOR CONSUMPTION!!!. This salt is easily the most protective of the four as it is great at Nullifying or returning negative energy.image

  • protective
  • Banishing
  • fire energy,
  • can be used for darker earthly Elementals & Deities,
  • the Crone or Triple Goddesses
  • working  with the dark moon
  • Warding, uncrossings, and binding work
  • can be spread around doorways & windows to keep out evil

Himalayan Pink Salt– is a pure, hand mined salt that is from the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.  It is harvested from ancient sea salt deposits, it thought to be one of the highest quality and purest salts available. The salt ranges in hues from white to various shades of pink,  and even deep reds; this is the result of the salts high iron and mineralcontent. This salt has the most soothing and loving energizes of the salts and can be used for bringing about love. image

  • promoting love and friendship
  • promoting positive energizes
  • Healing
  • cleansing
  • spell bags
  • baths or scrubs

If working with salt keep in mind that it is a natural dessicating agent meaning it sucks all the water so if your working with it outside and are sprinkling it on the ground it will kill your grass and destroy the surrounding soil making it inhabitable for plants and such.

Teas for Witches: the Basics

death-witch-envy:

I can talk about tea literally all day (and I have because I’ve worked in a spice and tea shop for years), and there is SO much to talk about with both health and magical benefits. Teas are made from tea leaves called camellia sinensis, with the exception of herbal teas/infusions. For this, I’m going to list magical and health benefits by type of tea.

Black Tea

Feminine * Earth * Winter * Strength * Stability * Death * Expelling Negativity * Alertness * Energy

Black tea is the most fermented and oxidized of all teas. Its tea leaves look shriveled and black. It combats heart ailments, digestive problems, high cholesterol, asthma, and breast/menstrual problems. Black tea also has a lot of caffeine (47 mg, still less than coffee) and too much of it can cause acidity issues in the stomach.

Examples: English/Irish Breakfast Tea, Assam, Darjeeling, Lapsung Souchang, Ceylon, Earl Grey

**There is a subset of black tea called Pu-erh, a post-fermented black tea. Some consider this to be the “purest” of all teas and connect it to the aether, as it is rare and valuable.

Green Tea

Masculine * Fire * Summer * Passion * Healing * Conscious Mind * Sexual Health * Love * Energy * Progress * Magic

Green tea is slightly steamed but not fermented, which maintains its green color. It has many health benefits, such as detoxifying, reducing cholesterol and weight, boosting immunity and stamina, and reducing blood glucose. It has less caffeine than black, but still some.

Examples: Jasmine, Sencha, Matcha, Gyokurocha, Genmaicha, Hojicha, Gunpowder, Dragonwell

Oolong Tea

Feminine * Water * Autumn * Reflection * Meditation * Wisdom * Serenity * Concentration * Romance * Friendship

I always describe Oolong as being between Green and Blacks, since it is half fermented. It can help manage weight and stress, balance blog sugar levels, remove free radicals, and promote healthy skin and bones. HOWEVER, too much can actually speed up bone degradation because it sweeps away excess calcium. And beware of its high caffeine content (I used to drink Raspberry Wulong to pull all-nighters).

Examples: Milk Oolong, Formosa, Wulongs

White Tea

Masculine * Air * Spring * Happiness * Wisdom * Moon * Purification * Protection * Clarity * Cleansing * Beginnings

White tea is a little harder to find. Either the tea leaves are plucked as immature leaves and steamed, or the leaves have not been processed (there seems to be little consensus across cultures). Some have a small amount of caffeine. It’s a great antibacterial and antioxidant, and it improves the heart, oral health, and skin. Drinking a couple cups works better than one, and you can reuse the tea leaves, granted that the second cup will brew longer.

Examples: White teas come in many flavors and are usually labeled as white tea. You may need to seek out a tea shop to find some.

Herbal Tea

Magical properties depend on which herbs are used

This tea seems to be the most popular for witches on tumblr, because it is composed of dry, unprocessed herbs, seeds, fruits, or roots, and has no caffeine (as long as the herb doesn’t!). There are many recipes online as herbals are easy to make. In general, herbal tea promotes calm, reduces cholesterol and risk of heart conditions, cancers, and diabetes. Due to its lack of actual tea leaves it has less antioxidants than other teas. Some don’t even call it a tea, but dub it Herbal Infusion.

Examples: Rooibos, most Chais, Ginseng, Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, Hibiscus

**Yerba Mate is an herbal tea that is notorious for its high caffeine levels (you’ve probably seen the energy drink). It also zaps one’s appetite and can become addictive, so be careful around this tea!

As always, feel free to add/message me of any corrections, and I hope you find your cup of tea!

Flower colour meanings

rosemarywaterwitch:

Not everyone has access to different kinds of flowers or it is just hard for you to identify flowers that you just picked.
So I decided to make this list, if you have any questions left, feel free to ask me!

Black flowers
Though they can be
harder to get, black flowers have multiple magical uses. You can use
them as offerings for your deities or in spirit work. They also have
good protective attributes – I like to use them in warding and
binding spells.

White
flowers

Because of history, white colours represent purity and
innocence as well as virginity, holiness and almightiness. So white
flowers can be perfectly used as offerings for your deities (if you
have any) or for spells that cover sacred parts of your life (for
exapmle family). White flowers could also be used for death and
goodbyes.

Red flowers
Similar to candle
colours, the colour red is mostly associated with love and passion.
Perfect for spells that regard your love life – self love spells,
love strengthening spells or for letting other people know how much
you love them.
They could also be used for magic that regard
things you are passionate about: your job, a hobby or whatever comes
to your mind.
A general rule is: the darker the red, the more
intense are the feelings.

Orange
flowers

These flowers have quite the same traits as yellow
flowers. They represent energy, optimism and warmth.

Yellow
flowers

So, yellow flowers. They represent happiness, vitality and
strength. I like to use them in magic that´s supposed to convey
comfort and hope – for myself or others.
On the other side
yellow flowers represent envy and grudge. They are perfect for curses
as well as repelling jealousy.

Green
flowers

New beginnings, hope and life – these are the main
correspondences of green flowers. If you move into a new place,
consider getting some green flowers.
Furthermore, you could use
them to celebrate life.

Blue flowers
In general, blue
flowers represent royalty. Blue flowers are perfect for
glamours!
Darker blues represent loyalty and reliability. Together
with red flowers they could totally be used for love strengthening
spells.

Pink flowers
Pink flowers are soft flowers. They
are perfect if you do magic for children and other tender people.
They can also be used in spells regarding self love as well as in
glamours. But don´t underestimate these flowers – they can be just
as powerfull as other flowers.

Purple flowers
Everything mystic.
Purple flowers symbolise extraordinary and unique feelings. They can
be used in spells regarding your magic – divination, astral
travelling or contacting spirits.
You do not have to make a whole
spell: placing a bunch of purple flowers close to you while reading
the cards, runes or asking your pendulum or whatnot should enhance
your abilities.

Dirt

hoodooyousee:

image

When hoodoo was created, most of the people using it did not have ready access to the best ingredients and often had to hide their practice. Consequently, a lot of what was used had to be things people could obtain. This is why hoodoo uses various roots, sticks, herbs, honey, sugar, and other household supplies readily available. There is no exception for dirt. Different kind of dirt is used for different kind of things but some examples include:

Dirt from the crossroads: used for many things including hexing/cursing, summoning certain spirits, opening roads, etc.

Dirt from a bank: Most commonly used in money work. I swear by bank dirt. It adds so much potency to money workings and every time I have used it I have gotten great results. Could also be used in works to get a loan, get approved for a house, relieve debt, etc.

Dirt from a church: This is usually used for works that have to do with cleansing, healing, or otherwise “holy” matters.

Graveyard dirt: A staple in hoodoo, used for many different things including curses, healing, ancestor work, goofer dust, hot foot powder, etc.

Some of these are examples of things that have been used traditionally and throughout hoodoo’s history. However, all types of folk magick utilize whatever you have.

I have in the past used dirt from a car dealership(to obtain a car), dirt from a red ant farm(defensive/hexing), dirt from a destroyed/abandoned building(defensive/hexing), and dirt from a specific apartment complex I wanted to live in. *not all of these are my ideas, but some of them are*

Folk Magick is and was about using whatever you have around you, and often whatever cost less. Do not ever feel like you can’t do effective, life changing magick with twigs and leaves. You can. Our ancestors did, you can too.

🌞Solar & Lunar Eclipse Magick🌚

lunaesteria:

image
  • Solar Eclipse: occurs during a New Moon, when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned – the moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, causing the Sun to be obscured by the Moon. At this point, the only visible sunlight stems from its corona, or the outer aura of plasma that surrounds the Sun.
    • Correspondences – transformation, rebirth, change, renewal, reflection, shadow work, spirit work
  • Lunar Eclipse: occurs during a Full Moon, when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its shadow, or umbra – sunlight is blocked by the Earth’s shadow, and the only visible light is that which is reflected through the Earth’s shadow causing a reddish hue to appear on the Moon
    • Correspondences – illumination, revealing secrets, unveiling hidden knowledge, healing, protection, divination
