my favorite thing about the contrast between early christianity and ancient greek and roman religion is that the difference in the ways they think and talk about their gods is really similar to the difference between how dog and cat owners talk about their pets

early christians: this is our god he’s omnipotent and omniscient and he is better than all of the other gods
greeks: this is our party god dionysus he got into an argument with a bunch of frogs once and we love him

Happy Reformation Day!

Four hundred and ninety eight years ago the sound of hammering resounded around all of Europe, and it is still resounding right around the world. It came as Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg. Martin Luther was by no means the first reformer, but his influence extended further and wider than any other before.

Let’s talk about the Arab/Trans Indian Ocean Slave Trade because if we’re going to insist on PoC solidarity we must confront our past. Let’s start calling “third world” and “developing countries” Previously Colonized Countries, because this way, we’re not ignoring the fact that these countries aren’t just slow in their development, or just happen to be poor, or low on resources. Let’s acknowledge the fact that white Europeans and Americans are the reason our nations are decades behind them. Because for every decade they are ahead of us, there was a decade where our labor power, our resources, our land, contributed to THEIR development.
