Inexpensive Witch Items for your craft #1

reddieforyou:

This will be my first post on places to get inexpensive items for you!

DOLLAR TREE!!! I can not explain my love for this store to be honest. Now it may be an obvious store for budget friendly people but I know many people may not think about going there for items for your altar, spells, etc but it is my go to place for all of my items! I will list below all of my favorite items you can get from there! Also they always get in new items all the time so I go quite frequently to see what I can pick up! And of course everything is $1 so to be honest it can’t get any better than that!

SALTS: 2lb boxes of sea salt, regular table salt, and they will even sometimes have pink Himalayan sea salt! Do I even have to mention why this is useful? Well I will anyway! Salt is like the boss of protection and purification. Use it in baths, spells, throw it around the house to keep negative things out, use it when you cast circles, etc. Salt is the bomb I my opinion. And why not get a huge box of it for $1?

SPICES AND HERBS: they have amazing spices to be honest. (Not just to use for cooking which I do) but they have cinnamon, parsley, ground sage, Basil, oregano, ground cloves, All spice, Ginger, etc. You can use these in jar spells, dream sachets, cooking spells, etc. They are fantastic especially for beginner witches who don’t want to spend tons on dried herbs or can’t find them locally outside in the wild or like those who live in a big city far from lots of nature where it’s hard to grow them yourself… Or for those who don’t have as much of a green thumb!

CANDLES!!! : THIS is one of my favorite sections at the dollar tree. You can probably get a better deal for bulk tea light candles somewhere else like Walmart but the dollar tree has amazing tall pillar candles, Scented candles, cute jar candles, Mason jar candles which obviously you can re-use for spells or storage! They have candles in different colors as well! For those who don’t like much flame they have great battery operated candles as well!

GLASS CONTAINERS AND JARS: THEY HAVE SO MANY GLASS OPTIONS! I love finding glass bowls, jars, vases, cups, etc you name it. All can be used for your altar for decor, spell work, collecting water, mixing stuff in, and anything else your little witchy heart desires to use for a glass container!

FOOD ITEMS: *PLEASE be aware to look at expiration dates and read labels. In my experience I’ve had no negative ones as of yet and I’m very sensitive to food and such* I Love getting my baking soda, sugar for offerings or spell jars, candies for offerings, sweets for the fae, jelly (I love their preserves they are delicious! The strawberry and raspberry ones are a house staple), Crackers, unsweetened apple sauce (it’s fantastic), teas (LOVEEEE THE TEAS they have fruit teas, camomile tea, green tea, black tea, and more) these are fabulous to use in spell work or just to drink, and mainly anything a kitchen witch or just a witch in general wants to use for offerings. *I do not advise on getting any meat or dairy products for obvious reasons. Though their vegan spring rolls are my go-to and the dark chocolate covered banana slices are also amazing in the freezer section along with their frozen fruit and vegetables I always make sure to get the ones grown in the USA. *

Fruit infuser tumbler cups! Need I say more?

CRAFT SUPPLIES: GLITTER, PENS, PENCILS, STICKERS, TAPE, FLORAL WIRE, FAKE FLOWERS, WREATH WIRE, FLORAL FOAM, WOODEN DOWELS, GLUE, ROCKS, SHELLS, SAND, YOU NAME IT ITS ALL THERE!!!! Anything you could possibly need for your journal, spell books, spells, etc. Everything is there!

BATH SUPPLIES: GLAMOUR, RESTORATING, AND SELF LOVE BATHS HELLO! they sell Epsom salt, good bubble baths, bath loofas, scrubs, soaps, anything your heart would want for a bath spell! I love getting my favorite brown sugar vanilla bath soap mix it with some Epsom salt and sea salt throw in some green or black tea and have myself a self love and clearing bath!

There are a lot more wonderful things that can be found at your local dollar tree! Those are all the top categories that came to my mind. Next blog post will be on online websites that have inexpensive things for my lovely witches out there! Sending blessings to you all!

hello! i’ve been trying to research magic, but unfortunately most books i find are specific wicca, which i’m not interested in. do you have any book reccomendations that arent wicca centric? thank you! i love your blog :^)

constantly-disheveled:

Oh heckin yes I do My amazon wishlist is literally like six pages long… ALL BOOKS

WARNING: This Is Going To Be Extremely Long!

First though I want to note that while I 100% understand your feelings about the Wicca stuff (being a very NOT Wiccan Witch), not all books that are Wicca leaning are bad! I’ve gotten loads of useful information from books that tended to be a little new agey. That’s where being objective comes in! With ANY book, you should take it with a grain of salt, and some with a whole shaker. But it’s up to you to pay attention to misinformation and conflation, and to know how to do research to prove or disprove that something in a book you read is true or not. Does that make sense??

Anywho, a couple of books that are still kind of “Wicca-y” but great:

Those are all books from my personal collection that I would recommend! Now as for the Non-Wicca Books, Let’s dive in! Not all of these have I read or owned, and they are in no particular order. You’ll notice most of them relate to “Traditional Witchcraft” or West Country, because that is where my practice is focused.

PHEW!

That was a lot! Okay anon I hope this gives you a good starting place!

Visualisation

rowan-witch:

Visualisation is incredibly useful in witchcraft as it is the base of energy work. From this, you can do all kinds of practices.

You can use visualisation for meditation, astral travel, sending energy into objects and many other things. These will all be covered in the future.

So, how do I start?

Here’s a basic exercise for you to practice. It’s very simple and many of you will probably be able to pick it up easily if you’ve already done visualition techniques!

1.  You’ll need a very quiet area where you’ll be comfortable. Even lying in bed and putting white noise in your headphones is useful. Get rid of all distractions, put your phone on silent etc.

2.  Close your eyes and empty your mind. Your mind might feel like a blank sheet of paper, and you’re going to create something in there.

3.  Picture an apple, any old apple. Zoom in and see its shape,  it’s colour. Does it have leaves, more than one colour? Look at every tiny detail of the apple you’ve created.

4.  Next, take a knife and cut this apple in half. Focus on the detail inside:  the colour, how many seeds there are etc. The more detail, the better.

5.  Now you use your senses. What the apple feels like, smells like. Bite into it and taste it. You’re using visualisation to not only see the apple but understand everything about it.

From this, you’re able to visualise and interact with objects in your mind. Practice often with anything you like!

adruidgarden:

I ended up finishing my map before the weekend even got here lol.
To anyone who wants to know about any witchy, pagan, metaphysical, spiritual, or crystal/gemstone shops in your area or other states, I have made a good map that shows almost every single one of them in the US. c: I haven’t put descriptions on the areas of the shops on the places but I have labeled each of them on their place in Google Maps. You can visit my map for the witch here. II hope this helps all of you, and I hope you enjoy it~!

Salts – Magikal Properties

honeycoyote:

Whether it is black salt, sea salt, pink salt or just plain old. Salt has a long history of use in rituals, purification, blessings and magical protection. Salt is created and thrives in the Ocean  (or the Womb of the Goddess) It is the taste of Earth in the waters of life. salt is a amazing and versatile natural source for cleansing, and  is a must have for anyone.

Regular Sea Salt – sea salt is overall very common, easy to obtain and affordable. It can be bought in either course chunks or fine like sand. White salt is associated with purification, purity, protection and blessings.

  • Used in consecration
  • Placed in water to cleanse it
  • Purification, cleansing and removal or negative energies,
  • Can be placed around areas to protect them
  • Commonly used in circles
  • Used in Curses
  • Can be made into salt scrubs

Celtic Sea Salt– is a “moist” unrefined sea salt that is usually found on the coastal areas of France. It has a gorgeous light grey, almost light purple color; it is harvested from the clay found in salt flats. This salt has similar properties to regular sea salt however because it is a much more natural and pure salt its properties are enhanced especially protective and cleansing. It also tastes amazing and is filled with vital minerals, I also find that since it is moist it clumps together nicely making it easy to work with and shape.

Black Salt- black salt is as the title says black or very dark in color. It is commonly available at magic shops, and is also very easy to make. Not to be confused with black lava salt or kala namak salts used in fine cuisine.RITUAL BLACK SALT IS NOT FOR CONSUMPTION!!!. This salt is easily the most protective of the four as it is great at Nullifying or returning negative energy.image

  • the Crone or Triple Goddesses
  • working  with the dark moon
  • Warding, uncrossings, and binding work
  • can be spread around doorways & windows to keep out evil

Himalayan Pink Salt– is a pure, hand mined salt that is from the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.  It is harvested from ancient sea salt deposits, it thought to be one of the highest quality and purest salts available. The salt ranges in hues from white to various shades of pink,  and even deep reds; this is the result of the salts high iron and mineralcontent. This salt has the most soothing and loving energizes of the salts and can be used for bringing about love. image

  • promoting positive energizes
  • Healing

If working with salt keep in mind that it is a natural dessicating agent meaning it sucks all the water so if your working with it outside and are sprinkling it on the ground it will kill your grass and destroy the surrounding soil making it inhabitable for plants and such.

Dealing with plant spirits:

solsmoonrise:

So I’m a spirit worker, and though I’ve only been practicing a little bit over a year, I’ve worked with many different spirits with most of them being plants.  This just comes from my own personal experience, so you don’t have to take this as law.

General:

Different kinds of plants have different personalities (obviously).  And as each plant has their own unique personality, generally they tend to be similar to other plants of the same type: cacti, succulents, vines, herbs, flowers, even going down to specific types such as lavender, pine trees, orchids, etc.  And then, how they react to communication depends on what stage they are in: seedling, middle, adult, etc.

Communication:

In general, plants tend to be fairly slow with communication.  And they generally don’t use words. The plants i have worked with preferred sending general feelings and images of what they were trying to communicate.  So be patient with yourself while working towards that communication.  Whenever you try communication, start by giving a small offering.  It can be elaborate, it can be watering it, spreading fertilizer (eggshells are good, a bit of sugar, stuff like that) around it, weeding around the roots, and small stuff like that.  Introduce yourself, and just start talking.  Explain what your day was like and what you did.  You can sing to the plant, they tend to love that.  Seedlings are more likely to talk very quickly to you, while old plants tend to take longer.  The time frame can be from a couple of hours to a couple weeks depending on the spirit.  If you want to create a relationship with the spirit, you’re going to have to communicate with the spirit regularly.  This process will take a while as it would trying to improve any friendship.

Now what?:

After you’ve introduced yourself to the spirit, it’s time to create a friendship!  Giving them small gifts/offerings is a great step.  Spending time with them will also help with that.  It doesn’t all have to be communication, you can read books aloud to them, watch movies with them, or anything else of that sort.  Find out their name!  Each spirit will have their own name, much like we do.  Some of them are really hard to spell and/or pronounce so I won’t be giving any examples here.  After building that friendship, you can do most anything you want!  You can have them assist you with spells, amplify your energy, and other such things.  Keep in mind that the amount of energy that the spirit will have depends on their vessel, the plant.  The larger the life force, the larger the amount of energy that you can borrow is.

Dealing with death:

Now, most of the plants I have worked with have been seedlings, and because I’m not perfect in the slightest many of them have died.  For me, dealing with the dead plant is a ritual to honor the spirit as it passes into a place where I haven’t been able to communicate with it yet.  I give it back to the earth (bury it if I can, or just leave it in a place where it can give back to the earth.  It gets a small funeral service, stating what they did for me, what I loved about them, that they will be missed, etc.  Before you leave them there give them a small offering to help it’s passage, water, fertilizer, eggshell, etc.  This isn’t necessary, but it is respectful and a good way for the spirit not to be mad.

Offerings

  • pebbles
  • water
  • fresh mulch
  • cleaning up forests
  • making bee feeders
  • songs
  • talking to them
  • meditating with them
  • storytelling
  • sugar
  • biodegradable food
  • weeding around them
  • eggshell powder
  • cold tea

Now, treat your plants well and get to know them!
