My technique for making runes has improved a bit since I last made them (with glass fishbowl marbles and sharpies about ten years ago, lol).
These are made from translucent Sculpey with ground clove, thyme, peppermint, and gold microbead inclusions for a faux-stone look.
Photos are as follows: before baking, after baking with one coat of gold paint, and then finally a second coat of gold paint and gloss sealant.
Overall I’m quite pleased with them.

Dragon Rune Spread (Getting to Know Your Self)
1. How Others See Me. This rune lets you know the dominant energy that others notice in you. This allows you to see how you present yourself to others and if it is favorable or unfavorable.
2. My Fears. This is exactly what it says it is – it reveals our fears, either hidden or unhidden.
3. What I Seek. This rune sheds light on what you are looking or striving for. This also may be something that you are aware of or it might reveal something that is unknown, in which case this may be causing friction as you are subconsciously yearning for something and might be working against it.
4. My Best Approach. It will give you an idea of what you need to do to reach what you seek, however this rune is only temporary in its advice. What it tells you today may change with the course of events.
5. My Goal. What your ultimate is along this path.
6. Obstacles To Overcome. This is an internal obstacle that you must overcome before you can work towards your goal.
7. External Influences. This is how others react to you and if they want to help you succeed or will try to hinder you.
8. The WayTo My True Self. This rune lets you know what you must develop within yourself in order to reach you goal.
9. My True Self. This is your True Will, your ideal self that is completely in tune with the world. This rune will let you know what attributes your inner self has. This rune will change as you grow.
10. Best Possible Outcome. This is the best outcome to the situation that is based on the person that you are now. If you change, your outcome will also change.

What can I do if my runes start giving wrong answers and don’t seem atune to me anymore?
Speak softly to them and give them a bit of pampering. Give them a spa day. Cleanse them with smoke. Spend time with each rune individually and let it speak to you. Write down what you feel. Make some tea.. put on some ambient music. Cast the runes and see.
Okay so you’re kickass at reading runes, do you have any tips or even posts somewhere that could help explain how to get good at it? For some reason I can read tarot so well but runes escape me :/

Some personal side notes/tips:
- Memorizing the meanings of the runes is not necessary. I have been doing rune castings for 4 years and I still use the booklet sometimes when meanings are unclear. It’s okay to need help.
- You are free to make up your own associations and interpretations for the runes
- Know that runes offer advice, they are not for fortune telling or peering into the future
- The runes will not always tell you what you want to hear, they can be quite rude, in fact
- Always remember that every rune has a merkstave
- Historically speaking, the blank rune was not included (that is a modern addition) but use it if you wish. I do not out of personal preference.
- It can be helpful to have some knowledge of Norse mythology before doing elder futhark castings
- If you have trouble connecting spiritually to your runes, it can be helpful to sleep beside them so you can bond (yes, I am that weirdo who sleeps with her runes in her pillowcase)
- Doing a daily pull for yourself can strengthen your readings
- Coming up with fun little ways to memorize the runes helps immensely if you have trouble remembering things
- Practice makes perfect!

From a dream I had. A plain mason jar with sand, shells, rocks and sea glass from our local shores. Added in small blue garden stones with runes painted on them.
Simply turn and watch the changing sandscape until a rune – or several – are clearly visible to guide you. 🙂
