Alright, my chronically ill witchy friends, I have something nice to bestow upon you today!
The Extra Spoon Spell
If you’re not familiar with The Spoon Theory, this is not going to make a lick of sense, so if that’s the case, go read it.
Now, because my idea of ritual is a wibbly-wobbly magicky-wagicky ball of stuff and not a Proper Ritual™, the list of required things is really up to you, but if you do best with solid rules, here is what I used:
A spoon (I lied, this is the only non-optional part, you’re really going to want a spoon for this). I got a cute one at Cost Plus for like, twobux, with a little curly black handle, and it’s all stainless steel, and just has a great feel in the hand. Get something that you will enjoy handling, as this is a pretty tactile spell and to activate it later you’ll again be playing with your spoon and so you want it to make you happy.
Some symbols that represent strength — I first got into magic through crystals so here I used some of my stones. Hematite, sodalite, a labradorite Fox gave me, a red sedimentary thing L brought me from Arizona, red tiger’s eye, a tektite I dedicated to Lilith, and a bloodstone. Use what works for me, or if you don’t use stones, you can sub anything here: herbs, tarot cards, runes, pictures of things that make you happy, any symbols that work for you. My friends are a great source of strength to me so I definitely wanted to include things that they brought me to help me. You can even use your own pill bottles if that’s what makes sense to you.
I’ve been working with runes a bit so I have an Uruz pendant in there too.
A candle representing the element that helps you the most. With fibromyalgia, heat is one of the most beneficial non-medicinal things you can apply to your pain, so I used my red tealight holder to represent fire. (You can use incense for air, a cup of water for water, a bit of salt or soil for earth, a figurine of Twilight Sparkle to represent magic, whatever jives with your system, man, it’s all good.)
An oil or other liquid that represents comfort and strength. For me, this is lavender. If you can’t figure out why, jeez. I don’t know what to tell you. I mean. More seriously, another thing that benefits fibro is restorative sleep, which is something I get very little of due to the nature of the disease, and lavender is a very restful, sleep-promoting scent. Use what works for you, just don’t use something you shouldn’t be handling with your bare hands. (Allergic to essential oils or just don’t have any? Olive oil is an awesome anointing oil! Think of it like the clear quartz of oils: you can use it for nearly any purpose.)
…If you want to use literal liquid courage and anoint your spoon with whiskey, YOLO, bitchezzz.
I lit my candle and put a drop of lavender oil in the bowl of the spoon and began to anoint it all the way down the handle. As I did, I would usually have stayed quiet and just focused, but I know how y’all like to have the option of words in your spells, so after a while I settled on some words to add.
Save up some energy for me, little spoon,
So when I’m out of spoons I’ll always have one in reserve.
Once your spoon is anointed and you’ve had a good chat with it (you can really say whatever you want, or sing, or whatever floats ya) lay it down among the symbols of strength you’ve gathered by the candle and let it soak up the strength there.
When you’re really tired and stressed out and feel like you can’t possibly make it through the day, pull out that extra spoon and remember the things you have in your life that make it better, and tap into the energy you’ve stored in your extra spoon. You can continually recharge it when you’re feeling good, too, just by playing with it and focusing your positive emotions and feelings of health into it.

Hi, I don’t curse, but can we all just agree that cursing white supremacists is a really good-heckin idea right now? Can everyone please just get along and work together to annihilate the fucking Nazis? Just imagine we’ve got our cursers on offense here in combat sending forth their collective conscious force of magickal fucking wrath and non-cursers on support throwing binding spells left and god damn right, energizing the magickally drained cursers after battle, and healing those ill-affected by the war. I’m honestly not settling for less than some fantastic full fledged army of Nazi-ass-busting witches here.
I’m in
Idea for non-curser witches: you can always bind their sorry asses from hurting and harming others. Just a friendly witch tip 😉
It’s also a good idea to cast protection/good luck spells to help protect the people in danger of nazi bullshit
I’m glad you all enjoyed this edition of “Late Night Stonery Ramblings with Amanda” which I barley remember writing from my apparent high-induced inspiration for motivational speeches and destroying the Nazis.
I’m gonna be slaving away at the keyboard today gathering a wide variety of information to compile a detailed master post with spells and tips for both cursers and non-cursers to all gather and merrily participate in the Nazi-ass-busting together in harmony.
[Spell Jar to Protect American Minorities]– I need to give a special shout out to the creator here because this spell is fucking awesome and is absolutely perfect for this cause and useful for all types of witches!
[Avada Kedavra Curse] – “a
harry potter inspired curse designed not to kill, but to make the
target feel death’s presence in their life.”
[Red In Your Ledger Curse] – “a
curse to inflict all the pain a person has caused back on them, one
item at a time.”
[Seven Devils Curse] – “inspired
by florence + the machine’s “seven devils”, a curse to burn the
kingdom of and haunt the target.”
[The Gaston Curse] – “curse to knock someone off of their high horse and make them feel the pain they have inflicted upon others and/or you.”
[Voice Theft Curse] –
“a curse to stop someone who has been spewing hateful speech and words and return that negativity they put out back into their life.”
Now go forth my children, and give em’ fucking hell.
One of my favorite Disney witches, Eglantine Price, proudly defended her country from Nazi invasion through the judicious use of barely understood spells and charms (never could get that toad spell down).
I would be honestly astonished to discover that any of my friends here on Tumblr were Nazi sympathizers, so I doubt anyone will be bothered by my complete lack of trouble with reblogging this post.
However, since I am certain a great many people who do magic are thinking of doing this exact thing, might I suggest a few tactics?
1. If you aren’t good at curses, or don’t desire to curse, but you do want to go on the offensive, there are confusions spells and “bad timing” hexes, and of course the occasional useful weather spell.
2. If you’re a more kindly sort, protection spells can be cast not only on your more aggressive magical counterparts, but also upon potential victims. Concealment spells and “nick of time” charms might also not go amiss.
3. For those who work with spiritual forces such as gods, fae, ghosts, or otherwise, calling them forth to aid the situation might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Our recent Circle of Salt podcast episode talked about exactly this phenomenon, so let me also remind you all- if you want to be public about your spells and join a movement, remember that the work on 45 is in fact working if we observe the evidence. For those who wish to be less open about their work, or aren’t fond of joining these kinds of things, I encourage you to focus at least some of your efforts on doing something useful that hasn’t been advertised yet.
For all of you, make sure at least part of your magic is intended to bring about blessings to the rest of us, because life is hard, and endless aggression and fighting makes it harder. The dangers of a witch war often are not only found in how another’s spells affect us, but in how our own outlook affects the rest of our lives. Take care of yourselves and each other, first and foremost.
This is why I love witchblr community so much I’m gonna cry
My depression kicked my ass the other day after a very intense tarot reading I did for another person. As always, depression has left me with low spoons, so there isn’t a lot of spare energy for spells. Not being able to sleep because of insomnia/paranoia/nightmares makes it worse. So here’s what I do:
-Look for a chamomile tea bag.
-Charge it in the most newbie way possible: rub your hands together, feeling the energy growing between them, visualising light-blue energy (use whatever colour is calming for you).
-Grab the tea bag, and hold it in your hands as you visualise the light blue light energy going into the tea bag, focusing in your intent of having a relaxing night of sleep.
-Put the tea bag under the pillow.
-Repeat each night you want to make use of the spell.
It works wonders for me. I wake up way less during the night. Sometimes I even go the full night sleeping without waking up.
🔹 Chamomile (helps combat insomnia, a common symptom of depression) 🔹 Green (contains an amino acid known as theanine which is known to fight depression) 🔹 St John’s Wort (contains compounds known as hypericin and hyperforin, which may affect activity of the brain’s serotonin system) 🔹 Lemon Balm (works as a mild sedative and can ease anxiety and depression) 🔹 Ginger Root (helps to increase important neurotransmitters than can regulate your mood) 🔹 Lavender (research shows that lavender can help combat depression, and has been said to rival antidepressants) 🔹 Peppermint (the menthol in peppermint leaves helps calm mood and aides sleep)
💎
CRYSTALS
💎
🔹 Smoky Quartz (helps elevate moods, overcome negative emotions, and relieves depression) 🔹 Rose Quartz (is a known healer and can help replace negative feelings with love and compassion) 🔹 Amethyst (combats stress and releases a relaxed energy) 🔹 Citrine (emits a sunny, optimistic energy which can aide in combating depression and anxiety) 🔹 Angel Aura Quartz (is known to help with mental illness, and it’s energy can help process emotional disturbances, grief, or trauma)
🕯️
INCENSE
🕯️
🔹 Lavender (reduces stress physically and mentally, and promotes deep sleep) 🔹 Jasmine (helps with alertness, evokes an uplifting energy, and is believed to ease symptoms of depression) 🔹 Ylang Ylang (has a calming affect that elevates mood and is known to help with physical and mental symptoms of anxiety and depression) 🔹 Lemongrass (promotes emotional balance, and uplifts emotional weight) 🔹 Sandalwood (encourages calmness, serenity, and feelings of well being)
🔹 Spend time in the sun, and in nature. Even if you only go and sit in your backyard, it will help, and make you feel a bit better 🔹 Drink water! LOTS OF WATER! Want an extra boost? Make a bunch of sun water and drink it on exceptionally low days to help with your energy and mood levels. 🔹 Ground yourself every night before bed to rid yourself of negative energies 🔹 Turn your sadness into creativity! Work on pages of your grimoire or book of shadows. Do some witchy DIY’s! Set up a new altar! Make some sigils! Being productive and creative are so helpful when you’re feeling melancholic. 🔹 Have some spoonie witch tips for low energy days! 🔹 Garden. Spending time in nature and creating something within the earth is not only rewarding, but gardening is actually a de-stressing activity and can soothe your mood. PLUS think of all the herbs you could grow to help with your craft! 🔹 Talk to someone. Other witches. Friends. A professional. A hotline. Anyone who is willing to listen. Put that energy out there and it will make a world of difference, I promise. 🔹 Let yourself have at least ONE self-care day a week. It doesn’t matter what it entails, as long as you’re taking that time for YOURSELF, magickal or not.
Love this list. Just be mindful with the teas and check with your doctor first before drinking them, especially if you are on meds, in particular antidepressants, as the herbal teas can conflict with them.
^^ Adding on, St. John’s Wort conflicts with antidepressants and can cause serotonin syndrome which results in an unpleasant trip to the hospital. Read the labels on calming tea blends before ingesting!
St. John’s Wort can also lessen the effect of birth control
Whoo! Another spell that allows me to use my phone! If you’ve been keeping up with the spells I’ve been posting as of late, I’ve recently found myself in a situation in which I have to adjust my practice to my new living situation. It’s hard for me to afford herbs, I can’t burn candles in my apartment, and I’m living in the middle of the city and am awful at taking care of plants.
SO I’ve been trying to find ways in which to incorporate something I always have with me (my phone) into my practice.
As a result I’ve come up with this all-purpose “wish spell.” Want some luck with money? BAM. Want to curse someone? Here ya go! Just want your coffee to stay warmer for just a little longer? Use this!
The steps are easy!
1. Create a new message on your phone and address it to yourself/your own number (or your e-mail if you’re worried about people going through your phone!)
2. Type out what it is you want. Use present-tense. “My hair is amazing today.” or whatever it is you want. Focus on your desire as you type and if you choose, add emojis that you feel pertain to your wish.
3. Send the message and hit Home – if you’re on the iPhone. If you have another phone then get an iPhone because really. Kidding (sort of). Regardless, just go back to your home screen.
4. Do NOT open the message (or e-mail) when you receive it! Leave it marked unread in your inbox! The reason for this is that now every time you see the unread message notification above your messages, you’re going to be reminded of the spell and that gives it more fuel.
5. When the wish comes true, you can finally view and delete the message.
