More low energy witchcraft for you. Because right now I know I need it for me.
This one is on just spending time with your familiar spirits or, in my case sometime, at least giving them a little attention when you are horrible busy. I’m going to go through the things that are my favorites. And I’ll try to keep this shorter than other posts, mostly 😉
Obviously if you’ve been following any of my posts you may notice that my #1 favorite easy magic thing is: Tea. Have tea with them. Make them a cup of tea and pour it onto the earth, giving it to them. This part is the important part. Whether it is nature or ancestral spirits, the earth is the best way to transfer that gift. SO #2 after that would be: a meal You don’t necessarily have to bury this. Although it is good to. I generally have a little bowl I will drop some food in as an offering, and say hi, if I’m busy and running around, or don’t have the energy for a conversation. For the dead I would not necessarily give them some of my own meal but prepare something separate for them. Sometimes, to be honest, I do throw the food out in the trash after. If I’m not well enough to take it outside somewhere to get rid of it. It’s going to a landfill regardless. I know that might be blasphemy for some witches, but I have a disability and a job and that leaves me with very little energy for grabbing that shovel. #3 Just try to recycle. It’s good for the earth. And all you need to do is get the stuff to the recycling bin (which can be difficult, but is a lot less difficult than most rituals) #4 Open a window, say hi to the wind and sky. Go outside, even just in your yard in in a small patch of green in a city. Say hello, drop some eggshells for fertilizer to if you can get them. #5 Play music for the spirits visiting your house, for the spirits of the house, for the spirits of the land. Try to find music they will like. #6 Draw them something, burn it, bury it, or send it to them somehow. #7 Just sit, breath, focus on being here now. You are here now. Notice how they are around you now. Try to be present and realize the now.
These are just a few basic things that I’ve learnt, whilst working with my companions and vetting spirits.
1. If the spirit you’re chatting to seems to have trouble working with the pendulum, try switching hands. A left-handed spirit will find it easier to work with a pendulum held in the spirit worker’s left hand.
2. (a) If you suspect that you might be influencing the pendulum because you know what it’s going to say before it gives the answer, it is possible that you are telepathically hearing the spirit telling the pendulum what to say – some will spell “out loud” and others will simply give it the words to relay as you work with a pendulum board together.
(b) If you still feel that you’re influencing your pendulum, put it to the test. Sit down with it and try to influence it. Decide for yourself if it feels the same and whether you truly are influencing it.
3. Remember: Not all spirits enjoy using a pendulum. My friend the bear shifter prefers to use telepathy and becomes frustrated with me when I use the pendulum to ensure that I have understood him correctly. On saying that, most spirits understand it if you are too ill/tired to communicate in a more taxing way and won’t complain (even Bauble doesn’t mind in a case like that – his complaint has only ever been that I need to believe in myself).
A direct binding, also called body bindings or soul bindings, is when a spirit/entity is bound/connected to you by your energy systems or your soul. Direct bindings are extremely dangerous, for many reasons. I and several other spirit workers have heard of many different ways they can and do go wrong, and let me tell you, the number of times they go wrong far outnumber the times they go right.
Conjurers not knowing how to undo their direct binding: They can bind, but they don’t know how to un-bind. Not many people know how to undo direct bindings, so if your binding turns out to be bad- you’re outta luck. And this binding is on your own body.
Conjurers not familiar with the energy system: They may know how to bind, they may know how to do spirit work, but they’re not familiar with how energy flows in a human’s system. Energy systems are extremely sensitive, blockages can be picked up rather easily, a problem in one area can affect the entire system, and so on. Any conjurer who knows about how easily energetic systems are affected would not be offering direct bindings in the first place. And I’m talking knowledge of the energetic system that goes past “well you have 7 chakras” like bitch you can google that. But how are blockages formed? How are they let go? How does a block in the heart chakra affect the third eye chakra? Most conjurers that offer direct bindings will not be able to answer those questions. (And before anyone tells me, yes I know chakras are only one example of a way to look at an energy system, but they are one that many people at least know the gist of, for an example in this informational post.)
Harmful Bindings: If the binding is done wrong, it could be a massive drain on your energy, or even a restriction on your energetic system. Both of these could be massively dangerous and the effects could spill into your mundane life, and thus your mundane responsibilities, as well.
Massively Draining Bindings: Direct bindings are powered by energy on both sides. However, if the conjurer does not put a constraint on how much energy the binding is allowed to draw, it could drain so much energy that it reaches dangerous potentials. You will be drained of magical energy, and possibly even physical energy you need in daily life in more extreme cases. How are you supposed to have the energy to break the harmful binding if all of your magical energy to do so is constantly being drained away?
Restriction on your energy system: So for your direct binding, your conjurer imagined your entity’s strings of energy wrapping around you. However, they unintentionally created a blockage on your heart chakra, because the binding was too tight and ended up creating a restriction on the flow on that point. Now you’re having problems feeling emotions, your depression and anxiety have worsened, and many other problems associated with having a severely blocked heart chakra.
Abusive spirits/abuse potential: You get a direct binding with a spirit, but you have a falling out. It turns out that they were very malicious. However, you cannot undo the binding; you don’t know how. You ask the conjurer- they don’t know how to undo the binding. Additionally, they assure you that you did something to piss off the spirit, that it’s your fault. Then they block you, and you’re out of places to look for help. The abusive spirit is able to bypass any and all connections you put up because of their link to your energy. They can drain you dry of energy anytime. They can attack you at anytime, anywhere, because they are linked to your energy. This will last as long as the binding is still intact.
Irresponsible conjurers that do not inform the entity of the dangers of a direct binding: Do you know how many entities that I’ve talked to where they knew nothing of the direct binding process? Much less the dangers and possible downfalls. Because of course no entity with a brain is going to want one of these when there’s 3 billion downfalls!!
Irresponsible conjurers that did not inform YOU of the dangers: Some conjurers offer this without even telling you what it is, what it does, or how it will affect you! And with that, you are usually not given information on how to break the binding in case the relationship goes badly, either.
The chance of a binding that you literally cannot break no matter what you do: You’ve went from conjurer to conjurer, energy worker to energy worker in search of how to break the binding. However, none of them are capable of it. It could be because the binding is too strong; as it is directly linked to your energy, the binding is always at full power and thus cannot be weakened without also harming you.
Suffer massive harm if one side dies: If your companion dies you will experience a large amount of pain; physical, and astral body pain, in addition to the emotional pain. Many conjurers do not put some constraint on what will happen if a companion dies; so instead of the binding becoming undone naturally, you are still bound and the binding may attempt to fix itself by draining you.
You could become so dependent on the other spirit that you cannot function in regular life without them/vice versa: Yes, this happens. Oftentimes people and spirits in a direct binding become comfortable with the idea that they are not capable of surviving on their own, and must depend on each other entirely for guidance or even sustenance. That is not a healthy relationship, you should not be dependent on each other just to be able to survive in daily life.
Danger Blowbacks: Your companion does something and pisses off a bunch of spirits. Now the angry spirits have a way to link to your energy so they can find an attack you to. Or vice-versa; you do something dangerous and piss off a bunch of spirits, now they have a link to your companion so they could attack them too.
Hearing each other’s personal thoughts that you didn’t want them to hear: There’s this thing called “personal space”. We all have thoughts we would like to keep to ourselves, and so do entities. Intruding on another’s thoughts is rude, invasive, and potentially abusive- constant monitoring and ignorance of space/personal boundaries is a characteristic of an unhealthy relationship, after all.
Personality/moral changes that are unacceptable to you: You grow similar to those you are close to and those that have an active influence on your energy. If you were bound to a spirit with morals different from ours, would you be okay with waking up one day and not thinking unconsensual sex is bad?
Loss of individuality: You will be emotionally close, yes, but this isn’t Steven Universe. You won’t get a redemption arc, not everything will end up okay. If a binding is too strong, you will start having trouble thinking and feeling on an individual basis.
Not a danger, BUT-
You can get all of the communication benefits that a direct binding offers in a regular or distance vessel binding. You do not need a direct binding to be able to talk to spirits! You do not need a direct binding to be able to hear your spirits clearly! A good vessel attachment can give you those benefits without all of the dangers that direct bindings have. If your conjurer tells you otherwise, then they’re shit at bindings and need to git gud.
And before anyone asks, NO I will not teach how to bind.
Why? There’s too many people on here who ask for advice, then refuse to take it and also ignore any safety warnings then turn around and preach about safety.
Feel free to reblog with your experiences/stories of direct bindings gone wrong!
Something that IS about magic: I’ve experimented for a few years now with what happens when I ask spirits that I work with where something is that I’m looking for. The results have been surprising and sometimes amusing. There are four different things that happen, depending on the situation.
Sometimes I am not able to find the thing after asking.
Either I don’t understand the instructions to find the thing, or I don’t get a clear answer, or the answer is incorrect. This happens 10-20% of the time, which isn’t a bad failure percentage at all considering how difficult spirit interpretation can be in some situations. An incorrect answer is rare and could easily be a case of “I didn’t actually understand the answer.” But I also believe many spirits can make mistakes too, or misunderstand our answers. Sometimes it’s a temporal mixup–I get told where the thing was or will be, not where it is now. When I get an incorrect answer or don’t get an answer, I explore why that happened so I can learn from it and improve my interpretation.
Sometimes I see it immediately after asking where it is.
When spirits help me find things, half the time it happens like this. The object/person/place will be the next thing I look up at after asking. Often that glance will not be in the direction I meant to look. It’s like someone turning your head in a specific direction to guide your vision, or replying to you by silently pointing where something is and then you look in that direction. In the case of pointing, since I don’t usually see spirits without heavy trancing, I wouldn’t usually see the pointing, but my subconscious can pick up on it and make me glance in the right direction.
Sometimes they tell me where it is and that’s where it is!
Almost every time this happens, the reply is “just around the corner” and sure enough that’s where the thing is. We found the airport info screens and Starbucks this way just this morning. I often expect it to be wrong because it seems unlikely that the thing I’d be looking for would be in the place they tell me… but if it was in a place I expected it to be in, I wouldn’t need the tip! I’ve learned over time to be more trusting and not disbelieve so quickly, but it’s amazing how hard my brain will try to dismiss the advice before taking it. Skeptic’s habits I guess. My main concern is making sure my initial disbelief doesn’t come across as an insult.
Sometimes there’s no rational reason for the thing to be where they say it is but it’s there anyway and that’s why spirits are shenanigans.
Many spirits can SUMMON objects as well as find them: many times something that would otherwise be lost will turn up where it has no possible business being. This happens probably 10% of the time, but it really just depends on what it is I’m looking for.
That’s the big takeaways! Experiment yourself and see what happens! Some spirits will have different abilities, and I find communication of this sort gets better with practice. But with the glance up or summon methods, you often don’t have to interpret spirit speech at all to get results.
Fun note: if you’re curious, when the spirits I work with find something for me, they are often pretty smug about it or just have a “yeah it turns out I’m pretty cool, aren’t I?” attitude about the whole thing. We have a long-term working relationship so they automatically get compensation on a regular basis for being on Felix Duty, so it’s not always an offering in return for each thing found if we’re already square. I make sure to give them recognition and thanks because that’s what keeps our relationships so chill and it’s part of why they perform the services they do for me.
Also, moments of attention are themselves offerings of your time and sentiment, and have value of their own.
I’ve been spirit keeping for a while and I regularly communicate with a lot of spirits whom work with me and are my friends… and occasionally I like to do something nice for them out of love. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them and I really do appreciate their help and love. So what is something recent I have done? well, I’ve held a small get together with my spirit family (this includes my fae ancestors as well) I take a pot of tea and a few mugs out with me to the back yard… sit in the sun and sit with them and enjoy their company. I take a jug of honey and a few ranges of teas as not everyone likes the same thing… (I collect tea… its getting to the point where it falls out of every orifice in my kitchen) but a few things each one likes are here:
Demonics: from experience and the ones I know… they like tea with a bit of spice… so cinnamon and also hot chocolate with chilli is a favourite. I like to have a few dips as well which contain chilli and roasted capsicum (bell peppers) as well. Don’t be afraid to put a bit of honey in that cup either… they do like it with cinnamon. Turkish delight is also similiar to something they make in their home land. Curried egg sandwiches… its made by simply mashing eggs and a little curry paste and smearing it on sandwiches.
Fae: Flowery type teas like chamomile and rose… also there is a french earl grey which contains rose and lavender petals which they do enjoy. Treats include nuts and honeys and sweet things like cakes and custards.
Vampirics: The vampirics in my keep do have their own little tastes and fancies. M who is a relatively new addition to the family enjoys a cup of English breakfast in fine china. You can also purchase a savoury item called black pudding which is made with real animal blood. it can be purchased from your butcher or deli…. Or cold meat sandwiches are a nice addition. Cucumber sandwiches… a little like aloe vera. I’ve heard some like mint as well.
Weres: In the past I have shared a plate of roasted meat cooked in red wine and made it a little bloody so they enjoy it more.
Angelics: I do love to make cheesecakes for my angelics and they adore the light taste. They also much enjoy brandy deserts and a small shot of gin every now and then.
Merfolk: My water folk are quite fond of salmon and I dont often like to buy it as salmon is dwindling in numbers right now as well as tuna, but you can make sure your fish comes from a good reliable source that doesnt affect the environment. fish eggs are something much loved by mine and i often like to give them sushi and seaweed items and miso soup. In terms of drinks, My octopus merfolk like vanilla and coconut deserts… hes a very big fan of vanilla things.
Incubus/ succubus: My incubus are a bit of health freaks, so I like to give them fresh things that are healthy like salads and fruits. They really adore a beetroot and feta salad that I make at home and are fond of. Theyre constantly watching their weight and appearance. a good fruit salad is mango, strawberry, chia seeds, cucumber, watermelon and rock melon. They like green tea and also rosehip and hibiscus.
Death spirits: My death spirits are a bit harder to please as they enjoy things which have been left to rot and deteriorate… one being apples. With scents they enjoy patchouli and I do make a habit to try to offer seaweed items and bowls of rice as these are A’s favourite items. A also enjoys jugs of ice cold water.

How
can I aid you in your goals of guiding and directing me to a more
secure life?
What
is your goal for my life?
How

of this question, especially Tom. They communicate that this has no
real bearing on a spirit’s ability to do it’s job – Thicket again
disagrees)
What
situations should I contact you about? (Serious, casual, everyday,
rare)
Questions
for helpers and servants
How

Is
there anything you would like to talk about?
Tell
me about your day. (Tom especially likes this question; Alexandria is
fond of it).

How
are you getting along with my spirit family?
Do
you still enjoy the offerings you are receiving?
Other
Notes
Some
spirits appreciate being chattered to all day long, just like a close
friend. Other spirits prefer to be contacted only when a serious
matter arises, or even not at all. When greeting a new spirit, ask
them how much they would like to communicate in general.
Do
not directly ask for names. Names are serious business in the spirit
world! Instead ask, “by what name may I call you,” indicating you
are not searching for a true name. Tom feels that even these given
names should be kept somewhat secret, and another nickname used to
communicate about this spirit to humans. Alexandria somewhat agrees.
Do not be offended or worried if a spirit refuses to give you any
sort of name at all.
Do
not confuse offerings with worship. Offerings are more like gifts –
literally, you are just “offering” something to a spirit. A cup
of coffee, a shot of liquor, some food, or even a nice glass of water
makes a good gift. Just as you would offer snacks and beverages to
any guest in your home, politely offer spirits something just to be a
gracious host.
Avoid
asking questions that give spirits leverage over you. “How do you
feel about me?” is a question asked primarily by insecure people.
Tom thinks this is harsh. Alexandria thinks this is correct. Some of
these questions you may feel are somewhat unavoidable in
companionship relationships. Let me encourage you to just be careful.
Tom wishes to leave a final note: “Always be careful. Spirits are not always what they seem.”
You are in a chaotic point in your life, but all will be made well. Just because you are afraid does not mean you are unfit to move forward.
Please note – though I myself am not a spirit worker, I’ve done enough research and seen enough of other people’s personal stories to say this: spirit work is not always light and fluffy and happy (obviously it can be, but not all the time). Spirits are not all willing to work with you peacefully – some are even downright rude or aggressive. It can be dangerous, and there are risks of getting involved with other entities not of this world. Make sure you know what you are getting into completely and are well prepared before engaging. Read and practice at your own discretion.
Since I just opened my spirit companion shop recently, I wanted to share some tips for you guys! These tips will generally help in connecting with unbound spirits, but can be useful in spirit communication with companions as well!
Things to keep in mind before doing any sort of spirit work:
Believe in yourself, belief holds power
Let go of doubt, stop worrying about accuracy
Your intent holds incredible power, be aware of it
Feel and sense first, analyse last
Release all expectations of what will happen
Release all tension and preconceived notions
Balance your energy, empty your mind
Research personality ties of colours/elements/etc
Don’t rely on divination, especially not at first
As for the communication with a spirit:
Find your intent for spirit communication. Attempt to picture it in your mind, try to perceive it the best way you can. It does not need to be anything specific, but what you think is what you invite, more or less. Understand well what you want to draw to you, and make sure you don’t let your mind wander while you are doing this. If you wish to communicate with a companion, picture them, their energy, and what you want out of the communication with them.
You can also create a visual space in your mind to have your conversation in. This is more along the lines of astral travel, but you will receive the same sort of impressions, it just might appear more fluid. Typically this takes a lot more focus though and you’ll miss out on impressions outside of visual impressions. I don’t suggest this for communicating with a spirit that you are unfamiliar with.
Associate your intent with something physical. If you want to communicate with a spirit that is emotionally forward, you will probably want a spirit of the water element. Having a cup or bowl of water will assist in drawing a spirit of that nature to you by giving them another medium. Be as creative as you wish with this, whatever physically expresses your desire for spirit communication will do. In the case of a spirit companion, this will suffice as an offering or a gift to them!
Contact can come through in small pieces, or large chucks of information, and is often garbled and hard to process. Let the information come to you but don’t process it as it does. Also be patient! When just starting out you might only get the impression of a colour, or a feeling! Do not be discouraged.
Spirit communication can happen by request, but it can also happen quite randomly. Always be aware that a spirit can communicate with you at any time, if for whatever reason they are drawn to the activity you are doing, or your energy.
Some contact may seem insignificant, but don’t dismiss any impressions, even if they are simply of a certain colour or smell, they most always have a deeper meaning
Contact may be visual, audible, or sensory, don’t dismiss the medium of communication either. It can be a combination of all of the above, or even just one of the above.
Contact might not be triggered when you expect it to! Even a change in the weather, or a song on the radio can pave the path to having an impression or contact from a spirit. If you’re not seeing results, spice things up a bit, try a slightly different approach!
Go with your first thought of belief, don’t second guess or question anything, not yet anyway. Feel and sense first.
Pay attention to patterns and coincidence! Having a good understanding of mathematical probability will help you distinguish when a spirit is influencing your environment and when they are not. This is particularly useful during divination! I always know a spirit isn’t communicating with me, or is not at a good energy level to communicate because the results are random and don’t follow a pattern that makes sense. So I think it is important to keep an eye out for patterns and coincidence in your life, even though it is not directly obvious as communication, it is.
Write it all down, don’t think about it just write down everything that comes to mind, scribble all the impressions that come to you no matter how much sense they make at the time. They’re all puzzle pieces to a puzzle that you’ll process later, might be months later. Do not dismiss anything as not spirit contact if that is the first thing that comes to mind. You do not need to confirm it, just write it down! If it becomes a pattern that is your confirmation.
Hold off on divination until you have experienced impressions from a spirit, and have some understanding of their energy and a pattern of their behaviour. When starting to confirm your spirit communication with divination, ask questions you already know the answer to! It will take time to channel the spirit through a reading, so don’t ask hard questions until you see a pattern of accurate results. I wish it was as simple as just doing a reading with a spirit you don’t know, but it takes familiarity for an extremely accurate reading.
Practice all of this often, even if you don’t get results, results and better accuracy come with time. It takes a considerable amount of energy to receive information from a spirit, which only comes with practice and becoming accustomed to doing so.
I hope this assists at least some of you in your spirit work and with your companions! Don’t forget that my ask box is always open, no matter how silly your question might seem!
Hey everybody! Buddhist mystic and energy worker, Darce, here with a little tutorial on chatting with trees. This tutorial is focused on tree spirits, but the same principles can be applied to almost any variety of nature spirits you might encounter. After reading others’ posts and practicing some nature spirit communication at home, I wanted to give it a go in the woods on my parents’ property while I visited them this weekend.
I had some wonderful experiences, and wanted to share with you all my advice for doing this if anyone needs help getting started! Feel free to DM me if you have questions or share any tips you’ve picked up with nature spirit communication 🙂
Preparation:
You definitely should have done some work on developing your intuition/inner-wisdom/psychic abilities (whatever your name is for this skill set) first or trying to communicate with nature spirits in the forest will be difficult. The same skills you need to talk to nature spirits are related to the same type of skills used for discerning meanings during divination, for intuitively selecting which of three potential herbs to use for a potion, or for talking to any other type of spirit guides or companions. It’s about tapping into your intuition and being able to have confidence in it. Make sure you feel comfortable with this on a basic level first!
Similar to the astral, there are many spirits – some peaceful and some not so well-intentioned – living in and traversing areas of nature, especially where there’s a dense population of trees and underbrush. Just to be safe, I put up wards before going into the woods. If you happen to run into any trickster spirits, you’ll be safer – and it’s much better to be safe than sorry! (I let the wards down a little when I encounter a spirit I feel safe around while chatting.)
If you have sodalite and/or blue lace agate, those are good crystals to help with opening the channels of communication. So if you happen to have either crystal, bring them with you and anything else that helps you with spirit communication in general.
Also if possible, bring an offering for whomever you end up talking to. The offering can be as small and simple as some water to pour over trees’ roots, or whatever you think a tree in your area might appreciate as a little gift! It’s the gesture that matters most.
Interaction:
When I approach a tree before I do anything I try to look at it and tune into its energy. Does it have a nurturing vibe? Angry? Quiet? Welcoming? Interested? Tired? Timid? Young and youthful? Old and wise? Try to see if you can feel out a little bit of this tree – which will give you a sense if to talk or not.
If you get decent vibes, then I ask in my head or out loud, “May I speak with you?” and usually get an intuitive sense of yes/no usually clearly right away. If it’s anything less than a clear yes, then I don’t approach any further and respectful try another tree.
If I get a yes, I’ll put my hand on the trunk. If you have the crystals, you can put them between your hand and the bark and channel their energies to increase your connection. Then I just continue the conversation. Sometimes there are pauses filled with silence. Sometimes the spirit’s answers are feelings, not words. I usually get a sense of the tree’s personality the more I talk to them, and the more I talk to surrounding trees – other conversations with other trees will come up sometimes bc the trees nearer each other are very aware of each other.
Make sure you don’t start asking anything from these spirits until you’ve established a good relationship first – or unless you are able to provide something equally valuable to the spirit in return. I recently asked a tree spirit to help me with a spell, and she agreed but asked that I provide her some positive energy later. You can still give offerings from afar – it all really depends on what the spirit would like. Don’t ever assume what they do or don’t want with regards to anything. Just ask and you’ll find out (:
Conclusion:
Afterward, I thank the tree and ask if they want the offering I have. Some do, some don’t, some don’t care either way. If the answer is yes, I give the offering and say goodbye for now.
Everyone’s experience is different, but hopefully this short tutorial will give you some useful tips to work with. I must thank @astralcaw for showing me their posts on tree conversations! It inspired me and helped me to do the same.
In summary, the key is to 1) be as respectful to the spirits as possible, and 2) trust your gut and your feelings about what you feel the tree is saying – your ability to get this more accurate will increase over time, but won’t work if you aren’t confident in yourself!
