college witch tips!

being a witch and living in a tiny dorm or apartment is a hassle… but here’s some (cheap and easy) tips to make your life a lot easier coming from a college witch!

quick note: if you are a student, you can get six months free of amazon prime with a student email account, and from then on out prime is only $50 instead of $100! amazon is a great place for tons of cheaper witchy resources (and really worth it for textbooks).

💎

crystals! whether you’re sharing a room with someone or in a room by yourself, plenty of people collect and use crystals. check for local flea markets or see if there is an occult shop in your area, there’s bound to be some there. great starter crystals are clear quartz (an essential crystal), amethyst, and rose quartz!

📚 the library! your school library will have some sort of resources. also don’t worry about people thinking you’re strange for checking out books on magick… i promise they don’t care!

🕯 candles and incense! when i lived in a dorm, i hated not being able to light candles and burn incense. invest in some battery powered candles! you can get packs at local dollar stores or walmarts. as for aroma related magick, purchase some oils and mix them with some salt water and spray them around your room! oil warmers or wax warmers are also wonderful alternatives.

📖 a grimoire/book of shadows! i highly suggest keeping a personal book. no, you don’t have to get some elaborate leather bound book that came straight out of hocus pocus for it to be legit. you could find a sketchbook somewhere, use a three ring binder, or buy a hardback book at a thrift store and paint over the pages! your book is what you make of it. it is your own novel of personal magical experiences and knowledge, so make it your own!

🌵 plants! invest in cacti and succulents especially if you are a beginner or live in a tight space, they’re easy to manage throughout the rough mishaps and late nights of school work. cacti are great for protection and banishing negativity, where succulents bring love and healing. both plants can represent the ability to survive through conditions others cannot. if you have a balcony, take advantage!

⚗️ jars! now is a great time to collect containers from thrift stores, gather old pickle jars, and look for sales and coupons craft stores may have since most of them will have all sorts of neat jars.

🔮 an altar! if you don’t have a roommate to worry about, great! do your thing. if you do (and the don’t exactly seem cool with the whole witch thing), you can make a subtle altar of candles, crystals, and some plants or flowers. they don’t have to be elaborate. you could keep a small altar in a shoe box or draw one in your bos/grimoire! get creative!

✍️ sigils! use sigils. abuse sigils. put them everywhere. write them in binders or on your skin, write them on sticky notes or ripped paper and put them places you’ll see them or bury them outside. sleep with a protective one under your pillow. there’s so many things to do and its so easy to use them!

🎨

get creative! you can make crystals out of salt (another thing you should invest in), learn how to read playing cards if you can’t afford a tarot deck, and never forget you can find the coolest things at thrift stores. paint can be your best friend!

☕️ tea and coffee! a keurig is a wonderful investment. whether you like coffee or tea, it gives you boiling water fast without leaving a dorm. enchant your keurig and remind yourself of the properties in your drink to help you learn.

decorating! take advantage of things like twinkle lights and washi tape! if you don’t know about washi tape, its a decorating tape that does not damage walls. create constellations or sigils with washi tape on your walls! amazon also sells many cheap tapestries. give yourself a comfortable and pleasant space to live and work!

⏳ plan! enchant your planners to help you remember due dates, and while you’re at it, keep track of moon phases and other events! many calendars will tell you when full moons are.

⚖️

meditate! this is something i find very important to stay sane during hard semesters. if you have a roommate, maybe meditate in the morning or late at night laying in bed. you could also meditate when they have classes. its okay if you cant every day, but its important to remember to save time for you.

🏃‍♀️

walks! if you live in a dorm there’s a big chance you’ll be walking to class. enjoy these walks with nature, read outside every now and again, but make sure that you are always safe.

take your time! you do not have to collect all of these things in a week, month, or even year. witchcraft is all about intent and energy. you hold the power, the items are only there to help. manifest your own power, collect at your own pace.

🔎research! always research properties of things. buy cheap dried herbs from grocery stores and work with them, figure out what to put in your coffee to help you with your day, and learn how to enchant crystals to help you feel a little more confident about your studies. most importantly, learn to balance your studies and your witchy research, and don’t let witchcraft get in the way of your schoolwork. school should come first always!

i hope this helped some of you college witches, new and experienced! i am always open to answer questions! happy casting!

Daily Witch Rituals for Busy Witches

  • As soon as you wake up, open your curtains and let sunlight into your room! It’ll help wake you up.
  • Stretch and greet the sun. Ask her to watch over you again today.
  • Draw a daily tarot card.
  • Enjoy a cup of tea. Stir clockwise to attract, counter clockwise to banish.
  • Pick an outfit with color correspondences to match the day. Even if you feel tired, dress in bright colors and smile in the mirror. Manifest the happiness you deserve.
  • Pocket a small crystal. Amethyst for protection, rose quartz for love, labradorite for courage, moonstone for clarity, etc.
  • Water and talk to your plants. They protect your home by absorbing negative energy and curses. Thank them!
  • Cook with intention. Use herbs, colors, and flavors that correspond with what you’re trying to manifest.
  • Meditate, even if it’s just for five minutes. Set aside time for yourself to empty your mind and relax. During this time, forget about upcoming deadlines, this week’s grocery list, or any other reminder you keep in the back of your mind.
  • Before you go to bed, review what you’re thankful for. Talk to your deities or just remind yourself of all the good things you got going for you!
  • Greet the moon and ask her to watch out for you while you rest.

Incorporating witchcraft/witchy things into your everyday life

I always get asked tones of questions on how to incorporate witchcraft into your daily routine so here are some ways that you could possibly do so

The tips:

– when you wake up you could burn incense or sage around your house and yourself to cleanse everything for a brand new day

– when drinking drinks like tea or coffee you can use the spoon to mix in a clockwise direction to increase something or anti clockwise to decrease something

– you can also draw a sigil in the bottom of your cup with honey and then add you drink on top

– when baking things with crust you can carve sigils into it to make your food more magickal and be filled with your intent

– set up an altar for your ancestors and pray to it everyday when you wake up or before bed, you can also leave offerings on there

– carry crystals or amulets you have made in your pocket or around your neck for them to work their magick

– enchant things such as makeup brushes or jewellery

– pretty self explanatory but you can write in your book of shadows or grimoire everyday

– have a moon chart which shows the stages of the moon each month and mark when you would like to practise your spells based on what moon phase will be most beneficial

– grow a garden filled with lots of different plants and trees and bushes, everyday go out and spend time in it to clear your mind and become more in tune with your spirituality and intuition

I hope this helped some of you’s! Feel free to add more suggestions below, happy enchanting ✨

WAYS TO CLEANSE YOUR ROOM/SPACE WITHOUT BURNING ANYTHING

trippingpixies:

Some of us have breathing issues or parents/roommates who can’t be around burning stuff, and some people (like me) just have parents/roommates who don’t like the ashes and such left so…

1. Clean! And I mean really clean. Take all those dirty dishes back to the kitchen, take that rotting banana out of your unused backpack (I’m looking at myself there), do your laundry, and then really get in there! Dust, vacuum, do whatever you gotta do.

2. Open your windows during the rain! (Make sure you set up some plastic or such so you don’t get everything wet) I just really love the rain and there’s something so cleansing about it.

3. Get a essential oil diffuser!! I love these, and you can find oils at almost every grocery store just in case you don’t have a local witchy shop. Most of mine are from Wal-mart! (Remember that some oils are not for consumption or skin contact if they’re cheaper. Always read the backs before using them in those ways).

4. Meditate in the center of your space and really visualize all of the bad leaving and washing away. Use crystals if you like! Leave your room filled with bright, beautiful and uplifting energy 🙂

5. Perform! Read a piece of poetry or prose you love out loud. Give a little concert in your room for just your dog and stuffed animals! Dance your heart out. Just do something that helps you vent in a creative and constructive way! It leaves you and the space around you feeling lighter.

Feel free to add on!

Reading up on sea witch spells and seeing people suggest putting offerings in bottles and letting the sea carry then away.

This upsets me.

It’s littering.
Please leave your offerings on something that’s not harmful to the environment. A sea shell, rock or even just on the beach. Please don’t use anything that could cause harm to the ocean or its inhabitants. Thank you!

Not to hijack, but all offerings in natural spaces should be planned to be safe for the environment it’s going into. This is why I’m partial to offerings of water or other consumable fluids–if it’s safe to go in my belly, it’s probably safe to pour over some plants.

Yes. Stop telling people to bury things in jars, particularly . Bury things in (unbleached) paper towels, or the insides of bell peppers. And don’t bury things that won’t degrade. There are so many ways to do witchcraft that doesn’t involve burying things that won’t decompose!! If you can, opt to recycle the item, or better yet, just change out all your spell ingredients for stuff that is eco-friendly and able to rot if buried. Srsly.

THANK YOU!

to add: making bowls or balls of ice to bury or to be carried awayby the sea. Use unbleached paper towels or banana peels(if it’s safe) to write your spell on, etc. There are many safe ways to do magic without littering.

You can also use cabbage leaves and cotton kitchen string in place of a jar, or write your spell on a piece of un-coated (like not metallic, etc.) paper and fold it into an origami creature because the paper will degrade

Eco friendly witchery tips. 🙂

*GESTICULATES LOUDLY AT THIS ENTIRE POST*

Always reblog eco friendly witch tips and tricks

The only time I ever bury a jar or bottle is when I plan to go an retrieve it within a week. And even then it’s rare. Paper is so much easier.

I know most people associate LUSH Cosmetics with white girls and bath bombs but products from this beautiful company have faded my scars and stretch marks, completely gotten rid of my acne, fixed my dry skin problems, thickened my eyelashes, laid my edges, made my hair grow like crazy… I can go on and on. I’ve actually never tried the bath bombs, but their skincare and haircare products work magic.

Fading Scars / Stretch Marks Organic Therapy Massage Bar

Extra Dry Skin King of Skin In-Shower Body Conditioner, Skin Drink Facial Moisturizer, Sultana of Soap Bar, Tender is the Night Massage Bar, Each’s a Peach Massage Bar

Acne Fresh Farmacy Solid Cleanser, Eau Roma Toning Water, Full of Grace Serum Bar

Thickening Lashes Eyes Right Mascara / Lash Milk

Edges R&B Hair Moisturizer (if you put this on your edges before wrapping your hair, they’ll be relaxer-straight when you wake up, lasts about 12 hours), Dirty Styling Cream (cream-based edge control with a matte finish, no more shiny or crunchy edges)

Hair Growth NEW! Shampoo Bar, Retread Hair Conditioner

I was asked to list the rest of the products I currently have in my possession, so here y’all go!

FACE / HAIR STUFF

Magical Moringa Facial Moisturizer Oh my lordy. Let me tell y’all about this stuff. It’s marketed as a moisturizer but I use it as a primer because when you put this on your face, it’s completely matte. Like completely. All day. And it will lock your makeup in place like no other. You can sweat in it, swim in it, whatever. Shit won’t budge. Ever.

Jason & the Argan Oil Shampoo Bar Amazing for volumizing. It made the three bundles in my head look more like five when I used this thing the first time, I kid you not. Also gives your hair a really natural shine. I only use it when I really need a volume boost, otherwise it’s just too much.

No Drought Dry Shampoo If you have a weave, you need this stuff. Period. A lot of times, the natural oils in our scalps (referring to my fellow black women here) are too heavy for Brazilian, Peruvian, etc hair, and so it’s easy for weave to get weighed down between washes. Shake this stuff in your hair, brush it out – bam, flow city.

Honey Trap Lip Balm My favorite lip balm, ever. Really improves the texture of your lips and seals in moisture. However, this is not for fixing chapped lips – use Ultrabalm for that first, and then this to prevent them from chapping again. Also, pro-tip, if you apply it before liquid lipstick, your lipstick won’t crease or dry out all day.

MASSAGE BARS

Strawberry Feels Forever Smells like fresh strawberries! Has a much thinner consistency than the other massage bars, so it can be used every day, like a solid lotion.

Soft Coeur Smells like chocolate and honey, and is ridiculously moisturizing. More heavy-duty than the other bars, so I like to only use this one on spots like my knees, heels, and elbows.

From Dusk til Dawn The shape of this one is amazing. It’s shaped like a cone, so it gives a deep massage when you’re using it. Definitely recommend if you have any sort of muscle pain.

SCRUBS

The Rough with the Smooth This stuff smells soooo good. Like cotton candy. I use it before I shave because it really does an amazing job at removing any dead skin and it doesn’t leave a residue, so it won’t clog your razor. However, it’s a sugar scrub, so it melts super quickly.

Ocean Salt This is a heavy-duty scrub. Really amazing if you have dry, flaky skin, and the healing properties of the salt are really great if you have acne. It’ll dry it up and heal it super quick.

Cup o’ Coffee Face & Body Mask I’m on my fourth jar of this already. The coffee beans are ground up just enough to give a deep, yet gentle scrub and the caffeine in the bar really does wake up your skin and make it look brighter. Great for the morning.

Buffy It smells like a vacation, that’s really the only way to describe it. It’s an exfoliant bar and body butter mixed together, so you rub it all over while you’re still in the shower, and then rinse the sand off. After, rub the oils in and pat dry. No need for lotion after because it seals in the moisture from your shower.

SHOWER GELS / JELLIES

Rose Jam Shower Gel Smells like roses and has a really bubbly lather. More cleansing than moisturizing. I like to use it before a more moisturizing soap because it’s great for removing dirt and oil from the skin.

The Olive Branch Shower Gel A long-time favorite of mine. Great for dry skin, as it has a really creamy lather versus a bubbly one. Also, the smell is very calming and lingers for a long time.

Needles & Pines Shower Jelly It’s a solid shower gel (consistency of jello), and it smells like Christmas trees! I like to store it in the fridge and use it when it’s hot outside, super cleansing and refreshing.

SOAPS:

Roses All the Way Personal favorite! Smells like roses & vanilla ice cream. Super moisturizing and so, so creamy. Definitely buy if you suffer from dry skin.

Yog Nog Very moisturizing and the scent lingers for a really long time. Smells like snickerdoodles and eggnog.

Bohemian Not at all creamy, as it’s an exfoliating soap. It’s great to use on dark spots like knees and armpits because the exfoliants soften the skin and the lemon juice evens out your skintone. Smells like lemons.

Karma Another favorite. It has a super thin consistency but is still very moisturizing, so it’s a good shaving soap because it won’t gunk up your razor. Smells like incense and patchouli.

Figs & Leaves Smells like dirt and grass, in a good way. Super cleansing. As in your skin will literally squeak after using it, so I recommend using an in-shower moisturizer like King of Skin after using it.

OTHER:

Atomic Toothy Tabs Solid toothpaste that you crush up in your mouth. It sounds weird but these things are phenomenal. They really leave your teeth squeaky clean, and are the sole reason my teeth are so white – I don’t use any whitening products. This particular kind smells like cloves and cinnamon.

Ultrabalm All Purpose Balm This stuff is amazing. It’s an all-over balm for rough spots. I use it in the winter time on my hands and lips, because they get dry. I also use it year round on my face where I get dry spots, as it doesn’t clog pores.

Silky Underwear Dusting Powder Another holy grail. If you could turn cocoa butter into a powder, this would be it. It’s not drying like baby powder, it’s more silky (it’s also talc-free). I use it between my legs to prevent chafing and under my boobs when it’s hot outside to prevent sweating.

This is actually so helpful because a lot of times I go into lush and I just end up getting pink things and things that smell good because I don’t know what other products are worth purchasing!

TALK TO PEOPLE. okay so I only worked there as a seasonal, but these overly polite, overly talkative salespeople have to do 3 demos an hour! SO if they ask if you want to try something, let them. They know what they’re doing and they will tell you everything you want to know about the product and what it will do for you.

The worst was when I had customers saying that they were just looking because they didnt know a thing about what they were looking at. A lot of the products look identical on the shelves, but they are all specifically tailored for different needs.

Fun facts:

  • 86% of all products are vegan, the rest are vegetarian
  • everything is ethically sourced, including the charcoal which comes from recycled forest fires
  • Lush will cut ties with their suppliers if they dont treat their employees nicely enough
  • Lush saves 10% of their spending budget for emergencies, like when a well broke down in one of their suppliers companies over in Kenya and Lush found out they were lowering women into the well, that money didnt just go to repairing the well, but for getting them a second well as well.
  • Lush even makes perfume but the scents are about stories instead of smells. There’s a little booklet for each one. My favorites are Dear John (about the owner, Mark, not knowing who his dad was) and Dad’s Lemon Tree (which he made after meeting his dad)
  • Lush also makes makeup, although they are working on getting more pigments
  • Lush is 21 years old and in 57 countries!
  • Charity Pot is a lotion that is low scent as not to mix with your other scents, is a lot of cocoa butter, and 100% goes to grassroots charities, they dont even pay people to make it, that’s how good it is
  • If you bring in 5 black pots (wash them please, they are dishwasher safe) you can get a free fresh face mask
  • Lush is the inventor of the bathbomb and most of them have essential oils in them and cocoa butter, so they’re not just fun, but they’re actually really good for your skin
  • There is a Lush Facebook page but more importantly is that there are local Lush facebooks. You can ask them if something is in stock and they’ll get back to you as quickly as possible (the Alderwood location takes only a few hours)
  • Anything that looks like a big brick of product is sold by weight. Just ask and they will cut you off a piece to fit your budget
  • FREE SAMPLES. Feel free to ask. They do NOT want to sell you something that is not right for you
  • Everything is handmade with commercial kitchen like equipment. This is why things don’t always look the same, because the recipe changes and different people are making it. Leave room for error and basically Guenivere likes adding more pigment than Brendan does but Brendan makes seasonal stuff that’s fantastic. It’s not that it’s gone off or is poorly made. There’s a little sticker that shows you who made it and it also has the expiration date on it
  • It the ingredient list is both green and black, the green is for natural ingredients and black is for synthetic.

If you go in and they dont have something because it was a seasonal or it’s no longer being made, do not be sad. The same scent may be in another product but more importantly, you can still get it. THE LUSH KITCHEN puts out products that are no longer being made every night at midnight (UK though so time stuff). There’s exclusive merch on there too, including bags and aprons and shirts. Everything goes really really fast though so you have to be ON it.

reblogged to the wrong blog because it took 4 attempts to reblog at all!

this is…nice

My daughter worked at LUSH before college and just seriously…they are an amazing company with highly educated salespeople who want to help you find things that will make you feel, look and smell your best.

This right here? This is perfect container for spells.

Is cheap (as little as 2 cents) or even free
Can be written/painted on
Is inconspicuous
Is easily accessible
Can be lit on fire
Is biodegradable
Floats

Budget witches, secret witches, all us witches.

Plain. white. envelopes.

You can even recycle old ones. But don’t use the ones with plastic windows to burn or bury.

It’s not a weird thing to have in your house

They can even be tied around candles if you don’t fill them to much.

Envelopes are amazing

this is why I love using envelopes as a mode for container spells!

My Spiritual Protection Tips:

🖤 dragon’s blood incense is a good protective energy additive to spells and wards. burn it for protection.

🖤 shells with horns and spikes make great protective charms for rooms.

🖤 black tourmaline and white jade are a power couple when it comes to negative energy removal and protection.

🖤 i use black candles for banishing and white candles to transmute negative energy into positive energy.

🖤 create servitors/thoughtforms for protection.

🖤 visualizing impenetrable armor around your body, golden light, and shields are great exercises.

🖤 i like to take a bundle of cedar and walk around in each space that has bad energy, sweep it over my body, and then safely burn it in a cauldron or fire safe dish. visualizing that all the negative energy it has collected is being transmuted into abundant blessings.

🖤 if you work with spirits or deities, petition them, pray to them, ask them for help.

🖤 drink green tea to heal any damage in your energy and aura.

🖤 a fresh vase of flowers helps to raise a space’s vibration.

🖤ritual baths with sea salt, sage, cedar, any oils or potions you like to work with for protection will help.

🖤 charge a glass of water with purifying intent before drinking (can be done anywhere/anytime)

🖤exercising helps to heal your energy and cleanse all stagnant energies out of your system.

🖤 putting a drop of skin safe lavender essential oil on energy points, (i like putting them on my wrists and the nape of my neck), will seal off entrances for negative spirits so they cannot possess you.

🖤 with a strong intention just tell the energy to leave. it works wonderfully.

🖤 petition archangel michael with a candle for him, dress it with cinnamon pieces, cinnamon oil, orange slices, orange oil, and let it safely burn to protect you from all lower vibrational energies.

🖤 if possible; a quick trip to the beach, regardless if you are a sea witch or not, will help purify and protect you from bad energy.

🖤 visualize opening an energetic black hole and push all the negative energy into it banishing it then, close it up.

🖤 elixirs made with cinnamon, pepper, salt, and sage are great for dressing protection candles.

🖤obsidian, onyx, black hematite, and black tourmaline are my favorites for absorbing negative energy and transmuting it.

🖤 meditate with a smokey quartz to ground stagnant energy.

🖤selenite will cleanse and open up blocked energy channels letting positive energies flow easier.

🖤my favorite protection herbs: rosemary, palo santo, cedar, sweetgrass, and sage of any kind (can be dried garden sage)

🖤 ALWAYS remember to invite only positive, abundant, high vibrational energies into your space after cleansing. this is very important because once negative energy is gone it can leave a void allowing more negative energy to enter.

📅🕯️Busy Witch Routine🕯️📅

xxmoon-sistersxx:

Hello Witches,

Now, I know as much as we’d prefer to spend our days riding broomsticks and brewing our potions in the big ol’ cauldron.

We still have responsibilities * shudders*, some of us are mothers, students, workers, or just people with a hectic schedule.

These are ways to get some witchy practice without completely throwing off our daily routines.

                                  🌅 Waking Up 🌅

  • Do some Yoga poses for 2 minutes.
  • Brush your teeth counter-clockwise to banish negativity from your day.
  • Stir your Coffee/Tea in a clockwise motion to invoke positivity to you and your day.
  • On your way to work, whisper a silent greeting to the sun. Enjoy its warm rays on your commute.
  • If you’re willing, try to pack or purchase a healthy snack like fruit and veggie bowls.

                                  🌤️Afternoon🌤️

  • Ditch the soda! Try rejuvenating yourself with water instead, maybe add some lemon, cucumbers, or even fruits to your water to detoxify your body.
  • Meditate for 2 minutes, but don’t forget to eat and energize your body again.
  • Carry crystals with healing and or corresponding energies pertaining to your work, school or plans for that day.

                                   🌕Evening🌑

  • When cooking/ cleaning, take a moment to play some of your favorite music to invoke spiritual energy.
  • Take a few minutes to google something you’ like to know! Crystals? Candle colors? Moon phases? Research and learn something new!
  • Mediate! Even if it’s for another 2 minutes. Anything counts! Clear your mind and relax.
  • Whisper a “Goodnight” to the moon, enjoy its glow for a few seconds.

Hope this helps you in your journey! We actually do things on this list and it’s been easy to manage!

~Kinara and Nessa
