Hi, I don’t curse, but can we all just agree that cursing white supremacists is a really good-heckin idea right now? Can everyone please just get along and work together to annihilate the fucking Nazis? Just imagine we’ve got our cursers on offense here in combat sending forth their collective conscious force of magickal fucking wrath and non-cursers on support throwing binding spells left and god damn right, energizing the magickally drained cursers after battle, and healing those ill-affected by the war. I’m honestly not settling for less than some fantastic full fledged army of Nazi-ass-busting witches here.

I’m in

Idea for non-curser witches: you can always bind their sorry asses from hurting and harming others. Just a friendly witch tip 😉

It’s also a good idea to cast protection/good luck spells to help protect the people in danger of nazi bullshit

I’m glad you all enjoyed this edition of “Late Night Stonery Ramblings with Amanda” which I barley remember writing from my apparent high-induced inspiration for motivational speeches and destroying the Nazis.

I’m gonna be slaving away at the keyboard today gathering a wide variety of information to compile a detailed master post with spells and tips for both cursers and non-cursers to all gather and merrily participate in the Nazi-ass-busting together in harmony.

Did y’all think I was messing around?

Now go forth my children, and give em’ fucking hell.

One of my favorite Disney witches, Eglantine Price, proudly defended her country from Nazi invasion through the judicious use of barely understood spells and charms (never could get that toad spell down).

I would be honestly astonished to discover that any of my friends here on Tumblr were Nazi sympathizers, so I doubt anyone will be bothered by my complete lack of trouble with reblogging this post.

However, since I am certain a great many people who do magic are thinking of doing this exact thing, might I suggest a few tactics?

1. If you aren’t good at curses, or don’t desire to curse, but you do want to go on the offensive, there are confusions spells and “bad timing” hexes, and of course the occasional useful weather spell.

2. If you’re a more kindly sort, protection spells can be cast not only on your more aggressive magical counterparts, but also upon potential victims.  Concealment spells and “nick of time” charms might also not go amiss.

3. For those who work with spiritual forces such as gods, fae, ghosts, or otherwise, calling them forth to aid the situation might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Our recent Circle of Salt podcast episode talked about exactly this phenomenon, so let me also remind you all- if you want to be public about your spells and join a movement, remember that the work on 45 is in fact working if we observe the evidence.  For those who wish to be less open about their work, or aren’t fond of joining these kinds of things, I encourage you to focus at least some of your efforts on doing something useful that hasn’t been advertised yet.

For all of you, make sure at least part of your magic is intended to bring about blessings to the rest of us, because life is hard, and endless aggression and fighting makes it harder.  The dangers of a witch war often are not only found in how another’s spells affect us, but in how our own outlook affects the rest of our lives.  Take care of yourselves and each other, first and foremost.

This is why I love witchblr community so much I’m gonna cry

@akelta

Different anon. I’ve been asking this myself a lot of times and an ask you received recently brought it up again. How does one tell the difference between flying and dreaming if it’s done in the sleep? Dreams can be extremely realistic but still be just dreams. Have you figured out the key signs of it being flight? And how can waking flight be confused with (day)dreaming? I thought it’s a lot more obvious than when done in the sleep. Thanks a lot!

ofwoodandbone:

Anything that we do could be easily confused with dreaming. When we cast spells, folks think we trick ourselves into thinking we have power and live in a fantasy. When we meet spirits, is it just hearing voices or is it truly a spirit? Are our visions just hallucinations?
How do we know when we fly while awake if we aren’t just imagining it all? I could convince my body that it’s not there and hallucinate the whole thing.

We have to gather evidence of its truth. We bring back information we didn’t know before or interact with the world to cause change and make a mark. We constantly test ourselves to make sure that we are doing what we say we are and not tricking ourselves. This is the power and usefulness of skepticism.

The same can be said for sleeping flight. Have you brought back an experience, gift, or piece of information that you didn’t have before which can serve as an indicator of its truth? Were you flying and contacted by a spirit to be told a prediction for the future? Did it grab your arm and leave a mark?
Flying feels different than dreaming. It’s… not really like walking around in your body. It’s almost more visceral than that. Colors can be brighter and all of your senses can be touched in ways that the physical can’t. It can also be the complete opposite and everything is dark and numb.

As you become more experienced with it, you’ll know what the sensation feels like and how to do it at will. You’ll recognize whether it was simple dream or flight. However, you still have to check in on it and make sure that it is what you think it is.

This ties in with the doubt ask I answered. Questioning the authenticity of experiences is what pushes us forward. Being dissatisfied with results is more than okay and can push us to achieving nearly impossible things. Question everything until you start to draw answers out.

I can’t use Chakras?

upthewitchypunx:

asksecularwitch:

zitwitch:

Can someone enlighten me on what I’m supposed to use if chakras are cultural appropriation?  And how do I change my entire practice that’s been built around them?  If you say that we shouldn’t use chakras that’s fine but I need you to give me some other logical options because every blog/book/shop that I’ve come into contact with thus far uses/promotes the chakras in western meditation, crystal healing, and ritual work and it’s what I and everyone I know has always used.  I never would have guessed that it was only allowed to some people.

SO I read through some of the replies which correctly explain to you why using Chakras is a problem. But they obviously do not provide you with any assistance with how to break down or otherwise give you something else to work with in terms of terminology.

So let’s start by saying this. It’s part of practice building. For me, it’s clear to see that you’ve at least built a practice around something that you have associated with the term “Chakra” and whether or not it’s an exact equivalent (because like I said it’s specific to a section of religions as other replies have explained to you). You have been potentially working with something.

So start breaking it down from there. Go to the base of the situation. Why was it important for you to have whatever it is you’re working with in ritual? What did it feel like to you? How did you work with them? What feelings or emotions or thoughts do you have on the topic itself? Maybe start with a long descriptive name such as “Centers of X” or something like that where it’s an explanation of the duties or functions or feelings or emotions of what you’re working with.

You can take what you’ve been working with and abstract it away from whatever cultural appropriative or religious appropritive (depending) terminology or thought process that you had originally. You can start by breaking it down into what you’ve actually been doing and discover exactly your own thing there. Your own terminology, your own understanding.

A lot of what got dropped in occultism from the past was originated out of a racist amature anthropologists in the occult community who wanted to exoticify their practices and make them look a certain way without actually having to deal with the other aspects of that practice. It doesn’t mean that, that has to continue with you. And it also doesn’t dismiss the real activities that you have produced for yourself either.

It just may be something that is unique to you in which you have discovered for yourself. There’s where you change the concept. Flip it out.

Because sometimes you’ll find when you look into those religions, right? Or those cultural practices? Right? That they aren’t the same. That the practice you’ve been doing and what the actual practices are, aren’t actually the same at all. Because like I said, amature anthropologists in the occult community would short hand or otherwise generalize exactly what those topics are. And in some cases, “westernize it” to make it easier for Western audiences to tolerate or “understand.” You see that across the board.

Don’t be scared to lose a term. Be excited that you’ve discovered something else for yourself and have built up a practice into your own field by your own hands. You may have just been calling it something else, or have been trapped in a specific box that you now can explore out more than what you have been templated into.

Make sense?

This is such a great exploration of practice building. There’s so much value is breaking something down to its component parts and seeing how it works in one system and seeing how it can work in your own system.

How Magic Works

will-o-the-witch:

These are just some of many different theories about how spells work. For anybody who really enjoys “magical theory” like I do or is looking for validation that there’s something to all these weird spells! None of these serve to discredit magic, but rather add a deeper level of understanding to it. The success of a spell could be credited to more than one of these, or something else entirely!

  • Law of Attraction. Basically, the idea that you attract what you focus on. A popular example is focusing on the color red, and seeing how much red is around you that you didn’t notice before. This is most effective for spells involving personal matters and success, by formally opening your eyes to details and opportunities you may have missed otherwise.
  • The Placebo Effect. It’s a proven fact that our bodies can heal ourselves merely by belief that what we’re doing helps! This can extend beyond health spells to things like confidence, performance ability, and other things that aim at personal improvement. The placebo effect may be all that spell needs to be successful ( and it wouldn’t have happened without the spell!)
  • Direct cause/effect. Something about the spell and the way it was cast directly affects the outcome. Example: a sigil designed for protection, when looked at, serves as a constant visual reminder that you are protected, subconsciously strengthening your wards.
  • Science/chemistry. This is most true for kitchen witchery and herbalism. Chamomile, lavender, and other herbs aren’t corresponded with calmness and sleep for nothing… they’re made up of chemicals that have been scientifically proven to calm the nerves and aid in sleep!
  • Quantum physics. There’s a phrase called “Quantum Woo,” where people use quantum physics (often incorrectly) to explain any type of magical thinking or practice. While the ultimate theory behind quantum physics was recently disproven, the discoveries made through research still hold true. Basically, we know particles behave differently when observed, and our energies can effect this. We just don’t know why that is. This is the baseline behind a lot of energy work.
  • Divine string pulling. Ask and ye shall receive. This is where we depart from the physical to the spiritual side of magic. Many people do magic by appealing to divine forces, Mother Earth, God(s), the Universe, whatever you want to call it. This could be with an offering, a ceremony, or even just bedside prayer. The divine force hears the request, and grants it by affecting change and “pulling strings” to cause the desired outcome.
  • Spiritual string pulling. Very similar to the previous point, but with entities that are not worshipped or seen as divine. Many believe that spirits can still affect change “behind the scenes.” A spirit worker may make a deal with a spirit for luck or protection, or someone may ask their ancestors for good fortune and health.
  • Personal string pulling. Instead of asking an outside entity, this is the idea that we, as the practitioner, pull the strings. This is most seen through the “cone of energy” method of casting, where we raise a lot of concentrated energy and intent in a space, then release it all at once to do its thing. You also see it with sympathetic magic, where by doing something to a poppet, we actively affect that change on the target. No middle man included.

Healing 101: Identifying Blockages

silkensorceress:

Disclaimer: Spiritual/Magickal Healing should NEVER replace mundane treatment. If you have a physical or mental illness or health issues see a professional. Always check mundane causes before jumping to spiritual conclusions.

Blockages are an icky thing that happen to everyone for a multitude of reasons: Stress, tension, repressed emotions, physical ailments, trauma, a lack of grounding, and more. Depending on the severity they can manifest in a way that has you feeling them in/on your physical body – especially if you’re energy sensitive.
They are an obstacle in your energy flow and thus bring it out of its normal flow when present. This creates an inbalance in your system and results in different issues including, but not limited to:

• Constant fatigue
• Being easily irritated
• Trouble focusing
• Negative feelings
• Trouble grounding, cleansing, or doing other types of energy work
• Being spiritually/magickally “closed off”
• Being unable to express yourself properly

Note that this isn’t a comprehensive and end-all be-all list. Also, again, be sure to check for mundane causes first.

So, how do you find a blockage? You could ask a healer or energy reader that can detect these things. If you want to do it yourself, there are multiple methods. I’m going to list two.

Method 1

• Sit down somewhere. It works standing as well, but I prefer sitting.
• Take your hand. If you have a specific technique to make it more energy sensitive, use it now.
• Go over your body with it. Whether you hover over it or touch it is down to preferance; I prefer to hover.
• Send out “sensers” that you glide into your energy system.
• Search through it, if you feel a resistance or an icky feeling somewhere, dig deeper. Maybe the energy is just a bit heavier or thicker there. Maybe it’s an energy point. Maybe it’s a blockage.
• Do that with your whole body. You DON’T have to be able to reach everywhere, just lengthen your energetic sensers for parts you can’t touch/reach, like between your shoulders.

Method 2

(This method requires astral traveling.)
• Lie or sit down.
• Get into a comfortable position. If you need to be in a trance or meditative state to Astral Travel, do that here.
• Now, reach one of your astral body’s hands out.
• Put it inside your energetic body. It doesn’t really matter where – personally, I like to start at the head or feet.
• Make sure to focus on your (Astral) hand and then start to go everywhere in your body with it. Feel it out. Any resistances? Icky feelings? How does the energy feel?
• Take note of any sensations you get. If something feels off, take a closer look.

Types of Blockages

@chaosjelly has a really good post about blockages and anomalies here. I will only extend on his list – read it if you haven’t before.

1. Messy Thread “Balls”. These are blockages that form when energies get cuddled up on their way through your system. These appear as bundles of, most often but not always, thin energy threads. They let energy through, though not as much as if there wasn’t a blockage, but not in its regular flow. The energy that comes through is more “confused” and disoriented, often not staying on its original path.

2. Walls. These are similar to the rocks Jelly mentioned. They can be tall, small, thin, thick, rectangular, oval, etc. but they’re all very stiff and strong. These let very little if any energy through and often create dams.

3. Dams. These mostly form in combination with other blockages as it’s rare that energy starts to accumulate in these amounts without something else being in the way. Dams are exactly that: Accumulations of so much energy at one point that it starts to get thicker and taller until it stays in its place, creating an obstacle for the rest of the energy. How much energy they let through depends on how thick and tall the dam blockage is.

4. Hard Energy. Not necessarily a blockage but still troublesome. Optimally, Energy flows with ease and is flexible in its way. Due to a bunch of different possible reasons it can harden and with that normally slows down. Not rarely it even stops. The rest has to make it’s way around it and the energy is more prone to catching unwanted properties.

This is not an end-all-be-all guide, but I still hope it helps!

FOOD FOR THE COMPANIONS AND FAMILIARS: AN INSPIRATIONAL POST.

nephillim-poop:

I’ve been spirit keeping for a while and I regularly communicate with a lot of spirits whom work with me and are my friends… and occasionally I like to do something nice for them out of love. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them and I really do appreciate their help and love. So what is something recent I have done? well, I’ve held a small get together with my spirit family (this includes my fae ancestors as well) I take a pot of tea and a few mugs out with me to the back yard… sit in the sun and sit with them and enjoy their company. I take a jug of honey and a few ranges of teas as not everyone likes the same thing… (I collect tea… its getting to the point where it falls out of every orifice in my kitchen) but a few things each one likes are here:

Demonics: from experience and the ones I know… they like tea with a bit of spice… so cinnamon and also hot chocolate with chilli is a favourite. I like to have a few dips as well which contain chilli and roasted capsicum (bell peppers) as well. Don’t be afraid to put a bit of honey in that cup either… they do like it with cinnamon. Turkish delight is also similiar to something they make in their home land. Curried egg sandwiches… its made by simply mashing eggs and a little curry paste and smearing it on sandwiches.

image

Fae: Flowery type teas like chamomile and rose… also there is a french earl grey which contains rose and lavender petals which they do enjoy. Treats include nuts and honeys and sweet things like cakes and custards.

Vampirics: The vampirics in my keep do have their own little tastes and fancies. M who is a relatively new addition to the family enjoys a cup of English breakfast in fine china. You can also purchase a savoury item called black pudding which is made with real animal blood. it can be purchased from your butcher or deli…. Or cold meat sandwiches are a nice addition. Cucumber sandwiches… a little like aloe vera. I’ve heard some like mint as well.

Weres: In the past I have shared a plate of roasted meat cooked in red wine and made it a little bloody so they enjoy it more.

Angelics: I do love to make cheesecakes for my angelics and they adore the light taste. They also much enjoy brandy deserts and a small shot of gin every now and then.

Merfolk: My water folk are quite fond of salmon and I dont often like to buy it as salmon is dwindling in numbers right now as well as tuna, but you can make sure your fish comes from a good reliable source that doesnt affect the environment. fish eggs are something much loved by mine and i often like to give them sushi and seaweed items and miso soup. In terms of drinks, My octopus merfolk like vanilla and coconut deserts… hes a very big fan of vanilla things.

Incubus/ succubus: My incubus are a bit of health freaks, so I like to give them fresh things that are healthy like salads and fruits. They really adore a beetroot and feta salad that I make at home and are fond of. Theyre constantly watching their weight and appearance. a good fruit salad is mango, strawberry, chia seeds, cucumber, watermelon and rock melon. They like green tea and also rosehip and hibiscus.

Death spirits: My death spirits are a bit harder to please as they enjoy things which have been left to rot and deteriorate… one being apples. With scents they enjoy patchouli and I do make a habit to try to offer seaweed items and bowls of rice as these are A’s favourite items. A also enjoys jugs of ice cold water.

Grounding with the Elements

baldrworshippingboy:

What is grounding?

Grounding is the process in which you can release negative or excess energies or borrow and gain energy. It’s a good way to “dust out” and renew the energies you have within you. A bit of a disclaimer before we get into this: this is how I, personally, ground with each of the natural elements. If you haven’t noticed I don’t include “spirit” but that’s personally because I don’t use spirit to ground.

With Earth:

This is done by imaging roots going from the bottom of your feet, the end of your spine, the palm of your hand; whatever feels appropriate to you at the time. Perhaps you’re sitting in a grassy field, perhaps you have your hands submerged in a pot of dirt, perhaps you’re sitting and leaning against a tree; do whatever you can or want to feel connected to earth.

Imagine a dim light flowing through your roots as a visual representation for the energy going from you to the earth or vice versa. Envision yourself like a tree, rooted into the ground for the strength and stability the earth has to offer. Take deep, even breaths; feeling the energy flow from the ground, through your roots and into your body. As you breathe out, imagine the old energy flowing down your roots and mingling with the solid energy the earth has to offer. Do this as many times as is necessary to get rid of any negative or stagnant energy you have. When you’ve finished, imagine your roots pulling out of the earth as gently as possible and curling back and settling into your body. Blow a kiss to the tree, potting soil, field; whatever you grounded with, as thanks for it’s aid.

With Water:

Fill up a tub, lay in a pool, lake, the ocean (make sure it’s safe and you have people you trust nearby if you’re worried). Lay down so you’re floating and close your eyes. Feel the water lap at your body and imagine it wiping off negative and stagnant energy, letting it roll off you and mingle with the ever-moving ebb and flow of the water. Feel the energy of it mingle with the water flowing through your body and emanating from the top of your head and the soles of your feet.

Take deep, even breathes (try to time it with the “heartbeat” of the water, or when it ripples against you), do this as many times as you feel is necessary. When you’re done rise out of the water, feeling it drip off your body, taking away any and all negativity and having it purified as it leaves your body and mixes with the water. Blow the water a kiss as a show of gratitude for it’s aid.

With Air:

Go to a windy spot; a clifftop if you can, a windy field, even a fan in front of you works. Imagine that breeze brushing over every part of your body; blowing your hair back, ruffling your clothes, chilling your skin. Imagine every breeze sweeping away any unwanted energy and sending it off to mingle with the air.

Take deep, even breathes and feel the air filling your lungs, spreading out through your body and as you breathe out see any leftover pent up energy ride away with the wind. Do this as many times as feels necessary and with your final breath blow a kiss to the wind as thanks.

With Fire:

Start a bonfire, light a candle; start a safe, controlled flame of some sort. Stare at the flame, feel the way it flickers and feel the stagnant and excess energies in you flicker along with it. Feel the flame’s light and warmth envelope and surround you. Feel that light circle and flow around you, going back into the fire to be cleansed and invigorated before the fire gives you new energy.

Take a deep breath and feel the fire warm your fingers and toes, travel up your arms, to your chest and out with your breath. Do this as long as you feel is necessary. As you see the smoke rise envision all the negative energy the fire took from you flying away with it. Blow the fire a kiss as a thanks for it’s aid.

When should I ground with a certain element?

  • If you feel like you can’t focus, like you’re flying away, ground with Earth.

  • If you’re feeling really heated and angry, ground with water.

  • If you’re feeling used and frustrated, like you’re taken for granted, ground with fire.

  • If everything starts feeling too real, stressful, and overwhelming; ground with air.
