My Tarot Self-Care Kit And Tarot Spread

Being someone who struggles with their chronic pain and mental illnesses on a daily basis, I often find myself updating my self-care routines quite frequently. What may work for me for one week, may need to evolve, change or be completely reworked for another.  Today has been a wonderful day of renovating my self-care regimen. I wanted to share with you all my Tarot self-care kit and how I utilize it in my life. Over the course of a few years, one of my therapists helped me to compartmentalize my self-care process into six areas of focus in my life; mental, emotional, physical, practical, spiritual and social. Sometimes I only have the energy to work on one area or half of an area and other times I am able to do up to three at one time. The important thing for me is to not stress myself and take an even bigger toll on my health by trying to accomplish more than I can.

In my Tarot Self-Care Kit, I have a few things that I know will help me during the trying times in my life.

  • The Happy Tarot: This Tarot deck is one that I always go to during any type of self-care regimen. The images make me smile and it is such a cute deck to work with whenever I am feeling anxious or upset. This deck was gifted to me by my parents during a really rough time in my life so it holds extra special value to me.
  • The Amethyst Oracle: This oracle deck has quickly become a staple in my kit. It’s straightforward answers and intuitive nature really helps me tune into what I need to focus on. The artwork is beautiful and has become one of the decks I use whenever I need a balanced reading.
  • Journal: My journal is an important part of my self-care kit. I utilize it to write down my energy levels, my interpretation to my self-care Tarot spread, as a tracker for my water intake, a gratitude journal and any prayers to God.
  • Smile File: I have a section in the back of my journal for something called a Smile File. I was first introduced to this idea from one of my first therapists many years ago. A smile file is a place where you keep nice messages others have sent you, compliments from others and things you have accomplished in your life. The premise of it is to make you smile and remind you of the good in your life. I use my smile file to remind me that my life is worth living and that people love and appreciate me.
  • Palo Santo: I utilize palo santo before and after my self-care regimen. My aunt who lives in South America brings me some when she comes to visit. Each little stick reminds me of the love she has for me. I burn a little bit of it as it helps to clear the air from any previous negative emotions and energy from past depression or anxiety episodes I have had. I burn some after I have finished my self-care regimen to promote a positive flow of energy.
  • Manifestation Candle: I like to set positive intentions during my self-care regimen. I usually pray over the candle asking for clarity of mind and to help with my chronic pain. I then like to do a Tarot trick where I find the sun card and use it to help me with the best plan of action concerning my self-care regimen. The card to the left of the sun is one way I can care for myself with the help of my wellness team and the right is a way I can care for myself on my own. I leave the three cards in front of my manifestation candle to amplify its energies. I often use positive affirmations such as I love, accept and appreciate myself,  I choose to let go of negative self-talk, I am a priority in my own life.
  • Violet Salt And Lavender Buds: I use both violet salt and lavender buds to help bring comfort and peace to me whenever I am triggered by past traumas. I make my own room spray with those two ingredients to calm me down. It also makes a perfect pillow spray before I go to sleep. I also use the violet salt and lavender buds if I feel that my decks need a cleansing after using them. I don’t do this often as I don’t really feel the need to cleanse my decks but when I do, I pray over the salt to remove any negativity and then pray over the lavender to calm the energies down of the deck. I then keep the deck in question in a small bowl with the mixture for 24 hours.
  • Tea and Mug: I try to stay hydrated as best as I can but I am not perfect. I like to treat myself to my favorite tea in one of my favorite mugs and sip contently as I work on myself.
  • Crystals: In my toolkit, I like to keep three crystals: Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and a Rose Quartz Seer Stone. Those three stones help to generate positive vibrations of love, healing, and acceptance.
  • Himalayan Salt Tea Light Holder: I utilize this to help remove any negativity that is around me and to help clear the air in my bedroom. The soft glow from this lamp is also soothing for me to watch and relaxes me whenever I am having an anxiety episode.
  • Tarot Spread: I created this Tarot Spread to help me with my self-care regimen. It is one I have used and tweaked throughout the years and still helps me on days like today.

25 No/Low Cost Self Care Acts

1. Have a drink from your favourite cup/mug. Coffee. Tea. Hell, even plain water is nicer when it’s in your fave mug (and you’re probably dehydrated rn so get on that). Allow yourself the couple of minutes to drink it in entirety.

2. Visit the library. Seriously. Nothing says quiet me time like the quiet couches and a novel in a library.

3. Look up some topics on iTunes U and read up on them. You’ll feel accomplished when you learn about a new scholarly topic.

4. Check over your resumé. Anything need to be updated or polished? Do that now, it can come in handy if an opportunity comes knocking.

5. Call a beloved family member or close friend. I just called my aunt for the first time in a little while and honestly you feel a lot lighter and a lot warmer.

6. Listen to ASMR, Binaural Beats, or guided meditation. There’s ASMR and meditation videos on youtube for pretty much any need– general relaxation, reassurance, mock spa days…

7. Volunteer at the local animal shelter. Volunteering is proven to make you feel better about yourself, petting animals helps lower your blood pressure, and nothing compares to the love and gratitude from a dog or cat.

8. Randomly browse Wikipedia or WikiHow. Clicking the random article is always an adventure– probably a laughable one, but you might learn something new.

9. Clean out your closet. It’ll feel like a lot of weight is off your shoulders, and you can sell or donate pieces that are still in good shape.

10. Write out a list of things you like about yourself. It can be tricky at first, but write down whatever comes to mind, even though it may seem trivial. Put the list away for times when you are being too hard on yourself, or need some self love.

11. Movie night. Obviously. Netflix, Hulu, library… A lot of thrift and secondhand stores often have really cheap DVDs. Re-watch your faves, allow yourself a guilty pleasure, or choose something that looks laughably awful.

12. Have a bonfire. Check your local fire codes beforehand, first. A bonfire or a fire pit is extremely soothing, especially wrapped up in a blanket.

13. Meal Plan/Prep. You’re probably going to be cooking anyway, so setting aside a day or half a day to prep meals ahead of time helps free the rest of your schedule.

14. At-Home spa day. Wash your hair. Trim your nails. Soak your feet. Exfoliate.

15. Write letters. Especially to your grandparents if you’re emotionally close– it will make them feel really loved.

16. Sleep in or nap. No explanation needed.

17. Bake cookies or make eggless cookie dough. One serving of edible cookie dough uses only spoonfuls of ingredients you probably have at home.

18. Wash your pillowcases and linens. This is especially good if you’re like me and the depression is real. Washing sheets gets neglected but the feeling of fresh sheets makes everything suck a little bit less.

19. Forgive yourself. Acknowledge that past mistake that’s been eating you alive and accept the fact that you can’t change the past. You’re still growing, still learning.

20. Keep a happiness journal. Before bed, write three things that made you smile that day. Life won’t seem all that bad, and it’s a good way to de-stress.

21. Shamelessly sing and dance along to music you enjoy. That song you would TOTALLY kill on lip sync battle? Own it.

22. If you like makeup/skincare, go to your local sephora or drugstore that has a beauty section. Sephora does free mini makeovers if it’s not busy. At the drugstore makeup counter, ask the beauty questions that you’ve wanted answers to.

23. Remember to say “no.” Declining to do a favour or go on an outing you can’t currently justify or afford does not make you a bad person. It means you have boundaries and deserve respect.

24. Watch some game shows. Lots of channels have them, and there’s plenty of compilations on youtube.

25. Let it out in writing. Sometimes having it all out in black and white can make solutions easier to realize.

I believe in you all! Remind yourself that you’re a good person, and a bad bitch 💕

spoonie witch self-care tips

la-petitefille:

– mediate on the thought that there is no “falling behind,” only moving forward at a pace all your own

– breathe in the fresh air from your window, study a flower’s petals (even if you don’t feel up to going outside and it is simply a photograph of one); look at the sky – all things that may seem small, but are really so big

– allow yourself to live by a positive mantra each day: “i may not be as active as those that i see, but the magick inside me gives all that i need”

– think about how much magick is constantly all around us, even when you feel like you’re not currently practicing it

– remind yourself that even the smallest accomplishment is a feat, and that you should feel proud of each one

i fucking hate self care posts made by neurotypicals so here’s one from someone who Actually Gets It

-can’t shower or take a bath? me either. dry shampoo can make your hair look and feel cleaner, and baby wipes or makeup wipes work great to get the top layer of grime off your skin.

-can’t wash your sheets and make your bed? i feel you. push your blankets out of the way and shake the crumbs off your sheet. it will at least be a bit more comfortable.

-can’t even change out of your dirty pajamas? been there. hit yourself with some febreeze and a lint roller. if you can, brush your hair. if you can’t, hair ties and bobby pins are fantastic.

-can’t make anything to eat? same. if you can, there’s no shame in ordering food. in fact, it’s probably better you eat something rather than go hungry. if you can’t, try and find something that comes pre-made or takes minimal effort to make. at the very least, drink some water.

can’t respond to messages or reach out for help? yeah, i get that. set an alarm for a few hours from now and respond to any messages you need to once you’ve given yourself time to prepare. if they’re Important Messages that need Professional Responses, you can find fill-in-the-blank format rough drafts on google. as far as personal messages go, don’t feel bad for sending a mass “I’m sorry, I’m in a personal emergency right now. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.” response to everyone.

-can’t even sleep because it’s so bad? asmr videos always knock me out, personally, but i also watch a lot of bob ross. just try to find something quiet and soothing to use as background noise and take your mind off it, or at least give you a more peaceful environment to think about it.

-can’t go for a walk/drive? try opening the blinds or curtains. you’re still exposing yourself to the outside world. baby steps. (i also play animal crossing or sims; it may be virtual but fuck it. i went on a walk.)

-can’t go into work/school? let people know. let your coworkers or classmates know it’s an emergency and you can’t make it. give yourself up to two days, but then you have to go back. ask to have your work emailed to you so you know what you missed.

-can’t brush your teeth and wash your face? makeup or baby wipes and gum or mouthwash. don’t let yourself physically rot bc you’re rotting emotionally.

-remember that you’ve been here before. if you survived then you can survive now. that’s what this is about- survival. you don’t have to be living your Best Life. right now, it’s more than enough that you’re alive.

This is the only self car masterpost I’ve ever seen that is feasible for severe depressive episodes

showgirlsteve:

hey so you know that vicious cycle of mental health making you unproductive which makes your mental health worse? don’t worry friend I am here with something that can help

just get one thing done. break the cycle. it doesn’t have to be some big task. in fact it’s better if it isn’t. decide on something that takes five minutes or less. keep it tiny and manageable – the key is to feel like you’ve accomplished something, so when your brain is all, you can’t even do a single thing all day except lay in bed being useless, you can be like, oh but I did do something, brain, suck on that. it might not seem like much at the time but it helps a lot to have something tangible you can point to

do you have dirty dishes in your bedroom? get rid of ‘em. you don’t have to wash them, just put them in the sink with soapy water. done. easy.

do you have a pile of empty water bottles sitting there? good for you staying hydrated. but you don’t need a mountain of plastic reminders. throw a few in the trash or in recycling. don’t worry about chasing down every single one, just pick a number. get rid of 5 or 10. easy, manageable even if you feel terrible. done.

do you need to do something early tomorrow? get something ready now. just one thing. lay out an outfit. fill the coffee maker so you can just press a button tomorrow. pack your backpack or purse. bonus benefit, future you will have an extra few minutes to breathe in the morning.

do you have a pet? spend 5 minutes with your pet. cuddle them. play tug of war. make baby noises at them. your pet loves you. I bet they miss you when you’re sad. you’ll both feel better.

has it been 3 weeks since you did laundry? pick your clothes up off the floor and put them in a laundry basket. don’t actually wash them or even take the basket anywhere. just collect the clothes for later so they aren’t spread all over. it’ll make actually doing them that much easier when you have more energy

did you manage to wash your clothes but not put them away? fold something. fold another thing. and one more. put them away. three things. you got this one.

did you do your one thing? good. I’m proud of you. even if it didn’t make you feel better, guess what? you did a thing. you got something done, you can be done now. you can go back to bed if you want.
