Night Routine for a Busy Witch

death-witch-envy:

Since a lot of people seemed to enjoy my Morning Routine for a Busy Witch, I’ve decided to write out my nighttime routine. Again, this post is only for ideas, and there’s no need to do this every night.

  • Tea is my absolute go-to for nighttime calm.
    • Herbal teas that don’t have caffeine, but can still calm you, include: chamomile, lavender, rose, valerian (do not take while already on a sedative), lemon balm, spearmint, sage, licorice root, rooibos, and blackberry leaves.
      • A lot of these herbs, such as chamomile, will also help you digest if you drink the tea after dinner.
    • Green teas do have a bit of caffeine, but can be very calming. I’ll often drink sencha at night.
  • Light a scented candle. Any floral scent, like the ones listed above, will help you relax before bed.
  • Baths and showers will not only relax your muscles, but also calm your mind. I personally refuse to bed with wet hair, so I usually take a bath with some scented candles lit and low light.
    • This has been said a million times before, but baths and showers make great cleansing rituals. Imagine scrubbing off your biggest worries and watching them swirl down the drain along with the soap bubbles.
  • When you rub on lotion, draw some sigils or runes on your skin before rubbing them in.
  • If you have a cleansing spray or air freshener, now is the time to use it. What better way to end the day than cleansing your house and having the air feel fresh?
  • If possible, go outside and sit with the moon for five minutes. I don’t know what it is about moonlight–it just heals the mind.
  • I struggle to do this myself, but in the best case scenario, it’d be great to wash your dishes before going to bed. It is so nice to wake up to a clean kitchen. Picking up clothes off the floor and throwing them into a hamper also greatly improves your morning. When your space is less cluttered, your mind is less cluttered.
  • Give a tiny offering before going to bed. It can be something you can leave overnight, such as water, salt, or herbs. It’s low-effort, spiritually attuning, and helps you feel satisfied with your day before bed.
  • I don’t personally do this, but I know a lot of people will meditate or stretch before bed. I find that grounding exercises also relax me before bed.
  • This is a personal routine of mine: I use a lavender salve I made and rub it on the bottom of my feet before bed. The lavender helps calm the body, and according to reflexology, your feet are connected to the rest of your body. Not to mention your feet get sore after a long day! Rubbing the salve on your feet will help you sleep.
    • You can do the same thing with lotion, preferably lavender scented.
    • I used to rub on hand cream before bed, and that helped me relax as well.
  • You can give your face a steam bath by boiling some water and adding a drop of essential oil into it, then bathing yourself in the steam. I’m wary of adding essential oil to my cooking pot because not all of them are edible, so I usually transfer the boiling water to another bowl and then add the essential oil. Still works like a charm.
  • When you get in bed, read something. Even like two minutes of reading will help calm you and (hopefully) make you drowsy. Unless you’re SUPER into the book. Then don’t read at night. Read something boring, like your homework.
  • Placing one of these crystals under your pillow may help you sleep: amethyst, labradorite, jade, black tourmaline, clear or rose quartz, selenite, or hematite.
    • Some people will place bags of pine, thyme, lavender, eucalyptus, or other calming herbs beneath their pillow. If you do this, be extra careful with how you bag them! My cousin ended up getting pine needles all over her bed because they weren’t secure. Use a ziploc bag or envelope to contain the herbs.

Man, could you imagine me doing all of this every night? No way! But these are fun things to consider when you want to clear your mind before bed. Happy witching! ✩°。⋆⸜(ू。•ω•。)

My advice for Beginner Witches.

bellsnbristles:

astreathewitch:

Dear Witchy Friends. 🌙

I’ve been requested this post various times and finally I’ve had the time to write it. Many of you have asked me for some advice for beginner witches
There are countless posts and books and articles out there that talk about this topic, written by people way more experienced than I am; this is just my personal take on the subject. My advice is based on my personal experience with magick, and, of course, it’s not the absolute truth.
Nevertheless, I hope that this post will be helpful to anyone who wants to approach witchcraft.

  • Every witch is a real witch. I can’t count the times I found myself asking the question of whether I was a “real” witch or not. All the energy and time I spent thinking about this, was energy and time I didn’t spend progressing in my craft. If you choose to be a witch, you can be one, no matter your level of experience and no matter what your beliefs are. There is no such thing as a “natural” witch; you don’t need to have witches in your family or ancestry to be one.
  • No Gods, no masters. While all forms of religious magick are perfectly valid and should always be respected, not all witches adhere to a specific religion or worship specific deities. It’s easy to be persuaded that the only way to do magick is to work with a certain God and Goddess, especially since the vast majority of the witchcraft community online is formed by Wiccan witches. As a witch with an atheist upbringing, this was a big problem for me, since I could not (and I still can’t) bring myself to worship a God. You don’t have to force yourself into beliefs that don’t resonate with you; many forms of magick don’t involve religion, such as Alchemy and most of The Left Hand Path.
  • You are your own temple. Magick can be done anywhere, anytime. As a beginner witch I always thought that I had to go to specific places in order to be inspired. I guess I had this stereotypical idea of the witch that walks through the forest and becomes one with Nature. While it’s ok to do this if it’s your thing, it’s important to remember that you are all that you need and there isn’t a place inherently more magickal than another. When casting a spell or doing a ritual, especially as a beginner, it’s better to be comfortable and relaxed in a place you know well and that makes you feel safe.
  • Expect and welcome change. Witchcraft is a transformative experience. You will find yourself believing one thing one day and completely changing your mind the day after. As you go through your first year as a witch, you will probably end up challenging all the beliefs that you had in the beginning. It’s fine to try out different forms of magick and shift between different belief systems; as your ideas evolve, you will discover what is really significant to you. Regret nothing; every experience you made is a part of your spiritual journey and it won’t be wasted.
  • Magick in theory and practice. Theory is important. As any witch will tell you, if you want to do magick, read as much as you can, write as much as you can. Nonetheless, abstract knowledge is pointless if it’s not associated with practical experiences. I know that performing a ritual or casting a spell can be scary and overwhelming in the beginning. Still, it’s important to experiment and try new things. You will never know if something works for you unless you try. As a beginner witch, you will find yourself pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone – don’t be afraid and go for it!

I know there are some not so new Witches that could learn something from this, too. I know I have been guilty of some negative thinking about “real” or “natural” witches, in the past. We all have to constantly grow and learn!

What to Do if Witchcraft Drains You

death-witch-envy:

Witchcraft requires summoning and manipulating energy. It takes a lot of work. As a result, sometimes spellwork can end up tiring people mentally, emotionally, or physically. If you find yourself drained after a spell, you can do many things:

  1. Eat something sugary, carbs, or fruit. This runs along the same vein as a nurse advising you to eat sugar after drawing blood: The sugar will reenergize you.
  2. Drink tea or water. Stay hydrated! even when not casting spells. In general, oolongs, blacks, and fruity teas can help energize you, whereas green teas and herbals (especially lavender, chamomile, mints and rose) can relax you.
  3. Light your favorite incense or candle. Frankincense, sage, cedar, dragon’s blood, patchouli, cinnamon, pine, and sandalwood are good cleansing and promoting positive energy. Or, light your favorite scent–it’ll automatically calm and re-energize you.
  4. Carry a stone with you. Amethyst, citrine, obsidian, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, jade, and hematite are good considerations for re-energizing and healing spiritual energy.
  5. …or, carry another special item with you! If you have a special pendant, prayer beads, necklace or other item that means a lot to you and comforts you, it can help restore your energy just by being in your presence.
  6. Take a bath or shower
  7. Take a walk out in nature. Even though you may not feel like working out, exercising can actually energize you rather than deplete you. You can absorb nature’s energies to replenish yours, too.
  8. Take a nap, or get a good night’s sleep. If you want an extra boost, place a healing stone under your pillow to recharge you while you sleep.
  9. Watch a funny movie or video, or read a good book. It’ll relax you, take your mind off your drained feeling, and correct any “off” feelings you may have.
  10. Work on something else that requires minimal energy. This could be crafting, knitting, watering your plants, or even doing your homework. Getting back into the groove of things will help reset your energy and stabilize you for daily life.
  11. Friends! If calling a friend or socializing will relax you, go for it! It’ll make you happier, too.

I hope you may rest well, take care of yourself and have a blessed path! (◕‿◕✿) Sincerely, a witch who’s exhausted after performing spells for four hours.

Spoonie witch tip:

Don’t be afraid to take your meds just because some witches think you shouldn’t have unnatural things!

Make your meds witchy and add magic as an extra supplement to the medical help you’re getting:

✨ enchant them with a kiss

✨ store crystals, herbs and other magical things near your meds to give you some extra goodness (like protection or calm or happiness etc) – don’t ingest herbs with your meds unless you know 100% it’s safe

✨ leave them to charge under a full moon for some added cleansing and energy

✨ draw a sigil on the packaging

Your meds don’t make you less of a witch! Please remember to always take them 💖

Use an Altoids tin as an altar.

Buy crystal jewelry.

Use perfume to cleanse.

Essential oils can be used in place of most herbs and are less obvious.

There are a lot of virtual apps geared towards witches that are easily hidden.

You can put sigils, tiny crystals, among other things in lockets to hide them but be able to wear them.

Acorn caps make good biodegradable offering cups.

Get into crafts! You can make some really cool witch stuff that can also just be taken as “artsy”.

Taking a few pinches from your parent’s kitchen cabinets is never a bad idea . Unless caught.

Always remember to clear that browsing history!

You can enchant jewelry to keep spells close to you.

You can make friendship bracelets/lanyards with colors corresponding to your intent.

Enchanting something you wear daily like glasses or shoes with a ward is something that could be done if one doesn’t wear jewelry.

If you’re into sewing/cross-stitching: incorporate secret sigils into the design.

9 Practical Tips for New Witches

wodenschild:

tarigrove:

1.  Write down a list
of your current passions, interests, goals, and beliefs.
  Knowing
this information can help you to develop your witchcraft and to make it more
personal.  It’s important to feel a deep
connection to your own style of craft, so it is incredibly helpful to
incorporate the things that you love in life.
While it’s a good idea to think of and list serious things, it’s 100%
okay if your list mostly contains entries like ‘shiny things, stuff that smells
good, My Chemical Romance’; you should definitely add entries like that,
because that right there still tells you that you’ll probably enjoy using reflective
objects, aromatherapy, and music in your witchcraft.  The entries on your list can help you to
creatively think of ways to make your magick yours, while still helping you to identify any pre-existing styles
and paths of witchcraft that incorporate elements of your list.

2.  Keep a regular
journal, along with any magick journals that you might have.
Keep track of your health, your dreams, your
moods, your habits, your life in general.
When you are first starting out, it can be difficult to automatically
see how magick affects you.  By keeping a
mundane, regular journal, you’re better able to reference past events against
your magick journals, to see if any changes or unusual entries (negative or positive) occurred at the same time
as something witchcraft-related.

3.  Sign up for as many
guided nature walks and talks as you can
.  It’s
always a good idea to know the nature around you, especially if you’re a witch. Guided walks and talks can give you
first-hand experience when it comes to identifying plants, animals, and other
things that you can find in your area.
If it is allowed, remember to bring along a camera and / or a notebook
so that you can record and reference your new knowledge afterwards.

4.  Take an interest in
cooking.
This is an especially good tip
for any witches that are looking to hide their witchcraft.  Learning to cook is a life skill, and doesn’t
tend to draw unwanted attention.  The
food, herbs, and spices that you use all have their own magickal
correspondences and associations, so it really comes down to figuring out some
ingredients that match your magick’s intent, and then finding an actual recipe that
calls for those ingredients.

5.  Start your own
garden, no matter how small.

Seeds can be affordable purchased at most stores with gardening centers,
and you can grow some herbs in a leftover tin can.  Really, you don’t need a lot of space or cash
to be able to start some sort of garden, whether indoors or outdoors.  Just make sure that wherever you are
planting, you have permission to plant there!

6.  Develop your DIY skills.  Crafting, sewing,
upcycling – spend some time learning about the ‘Do It Yourself’ culture.  Aside from being an excellent way to learn
how to create your own tools and witchy stuff, a lot of the skills that you
will learn can be incorporated into your spells.  So can any supplies that you have on hand for
regular arts and crafts, for that matter.
And when you get right down to it, nobody has to know that your handmade
lavender lip-balm is actually an enchanted item and a dual healing / beauty
spell.  Making anything by hand helps to
give it power, and can be another great way to practice witchcraft
under-the-radar; unless you literally announce that your felt-and-an-old-sock
plushie is actually a poppet, how can anybody know?

7.  Find places to
source your witchy ingredients and supplies
.
Look up and scout out any local:

o
Book stores

o
Box stores (like Walmart, Target)

o
Craft stores

o
Dollar stores

o
Farm stands

o   Farmer’s markets

o
Flea markets

o
Garden stores / Nurseries

o
Libraries

o
Hiking trails

o
Metaphysical / New Age stores

o
Rockhounding locations

o
Tea / herb stores

o
Thrift stores

o
Rock / crystal / mineral shops

8.  Build a non-fiction
library.
 Cookbooks, how-to books, field
guides, books that teach you skills.
History books, scientific magazines and journals, textbooks on any
topic.  Read about first-hand accounts,
theories and practices, facts and trivia.
Read educational books meant for kids, and encyclopedias meant for
months of study.  Don’t be afraid to
check your material against a different source, either.  Finding multiple sources citing a piece of
knowledge is a good habit to develop, especially
if your knowledge deals with the safety or danger of anything.  Whether it was posted online or published in
a book, make sure that the author’s information is accurate!

9.  Collect and upcycle
bottles, jars, tins, and other storage.
It’s a running joke
here on Tumbler: ‘witches love jars’.
But wow is it an accurate
joke.  There have been a couple of times
that I’ve come home with new loose supplies like shells or acorns, only to
stand there and realize that literally all of my other storage is taken and
that unless I want to stick them in a plastic bag, I have to temporarily store
them by taking the last few Piroutte cookies out of the tin and giving it a
quick cleaning (and now you know the exact moment that I thought of posting about this tip! lol).  Practicing witchcraft can
be a really quick way to turn into a self-powered miniature recycling plant; it’s
a lot cheaper to clean that jelly jar than it is to go buy an actual Mason jar,
and it’s usually better for the environment as well ^_^

Not all of these are for everyone, but I like a lot of them.
