Witch Tip

Don’t discount the simplicity of magic (especially if like me, you often find yourself low on money, supplies, and energy).

I literally just lit a scented candle I enjoy and said, “As this candle burns, burn away my frustrations with it.”

Within 30 seconds, my mood improved 100% for no specific reason- which is saying something as I’ve had a hell of a day, and it’s easy for me to get stuck in ruts. In the minutes to follow, my phone started working again (it wasn’t before), a financial issue was solved, I found something I’ve been looking for the last several days, and my kitten appeared to curl up in my lap like a lil sentient stress reliever.

Intent is everything, friends.

What to do when you fell out with your practice

silkensorcerer:

Because I sure as hell needed this post when I did.

1. Realize that it‘s okay. Accept that it happened. Forgive yourself for it.

Maybe life got in the way and you just didn‘t have the time or energy or possibility. Maybe something happened on your path that got you scared, frightened, panicked, or even disgusted so that you had to take a step back and retreat. Maybe your focus simply shifted. Maybe you got bored. Maybe everything just got overwhelming and you weren‘t able to juggle magick and the mundane at the same time. Maybe mental illness got in the way.
No matter what the reason for your fall out was, accept that it happened, forgive yourself for it. Because it‘s okay, life happens in phases, and no matter the reason, how big or how small, it‘s part of your journey and totally fine. These things happen to the best of us, so don‘t blame yourself for it. It really is okay. Pinky promise.

2. Reconnect with your god(s) and/or non-physical friends, if needed.

If you‘re a spirit companion/have spirit friends like me or are devoted to a god or certain deity/ies, your time with them/devotion to them probably fell under the brick as well. If it did, reconnect. I promise chances are they‘ll understand. As I said, life happens, and they know that too. They probably saw what you were going through. Explain what happened to them, apologize, and move on, if they allow it. Just spend more time with them again, greet them good morning and wish them good night again, invite them to join you throughout your day again. I promise, any good relationship will hold, just show that you really are sorry and put in effort to show that you care again. I’m sure they missed you as well so it’s time to make up for the time you lost!

3. Don’t overwhelm and overestimate yourself.

Chances are the longer your fall-out was, the more your “psychic muscles” lost in strength. Your intuition may be a bit more out-of-tune, you may have more trouble hearing/seeing/feeling/sensing spirits and energies. Maybe you have more trouble programing things or adding energy to objects than before. That’s okay! It’s totally fine and normal, just don’t be surprised if it happens and know that with practice you’ll be back to old strength in no time! Until then, start small and work with what you have.

4. Start small, don’t rush it, one step at a time.

Start drawing a daily or weekly card again. Start carrying crystals with you again. Start laying them out under the moon to charge again. Do small rituals like maybe doing some bath magic before you rush head-first into a huge complicated thing again! Again, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Also, you want to build a routine again to not risk falling out again.
Some ideas on what to do when building your practice up again:

  • lay crystals, items, water, anything out under the moon/sun to charge
  • talk to plants
  • draw a daily/weekly card
  • pick a crystal to carry with you throughout the day in the morning
  • say mantras in the morning
  • infuse your tea/coffee with intent
  • send out your energetic sensers when comfortable and at home. slowly but surely
  • meditate. 5 minutes in the evening, 5 minutes in the morning. at least.
  • go for a daily walk at a certain time
  • look through your grimoire/bos if you have one. write in it again
  • doodle little sigils in your free time
  • and many, many more

5. If needed, make a schedule.

As I said, you may want to build a routine. If those work for you, make a daily or weekly plan. Look up transits and check when you have time, then create your own magical schedule. If need be, set some reminders on your phone. Just try to be disciplined about it for a while so that you get back into your practice smoothly!

6. Reinvent your craft.

You probably changed since you last practiced, or maybe there was a reason IN your practice that caused the fall-out. If so, identify what it was. Reflect on yourself, your practice, your life. How can you make everything run together more smoothly? Maybe you want to focus more on the mundane than the spiritual, and if so that’s totally fine. Adapt your practice in a way that fits and feels good, it’s all yours so feel free to do whatever you want! Maybe you want to shift the focus IN your practice, or maybe you want to stop doing something, maybe start doing something else (instead).

(Optional) 7. Talk to others.

Sometimes it is so, so hard to not feel incredibly bad and like you fucked yourself or your life or your relationships up when this happens (and not just in relation to magic but other things as well). Please know that you’re not alone on this and if your own up-lifting thoughts and words are not enough, seek validation outside. I promise that’s not a selfish or vain thing to do, it’s natural and human and you deserve to be told that you’re doing just fine. Go to a trusted friend, family member, maybe blogger, anyone. If you want, you can always come to me. Talk to someone about how things are going now, talk to them about the things you just did to make yourself feel good about doing this.

💗 No matter what, it’s all good. I promise. These things just happen and there is no reason to blame yourself – please take good care of yourself and know that you come first – magic and everything else second.
I hope this was useful to some, I know it helped me as I’m just getting out of a fall-out, too. I hope you all have a magical day~! 💗

Witch Tip

hellaqueerwitch:

If you shave/do the peel off face masks that like show you the gunk out of your pores/something that visually shows you removing things you don’t want from your body, use it as a small spell to help you get rid of other things in your life, such as a bad self image, that toxic person you can’t quite bring yourself to unfriend on facebook, or things from your past you’d rather let go, and tell them goodbye as you shave, peel off the face mask, or whatever you do.

Tips for Witches in College

A lot of witches I have met throughout the years are in college, including me! While our magickal studies are important, it is also important to maintain your academic performance. Think of it this way; the less you stress over school (because you’re on top of things), the more you can focus on magick!

Here are some tips:

  • Use different colored pens/font colors to match the meaning behind the subject or just use purple for intelligence!
  • Wear purple to exams!
  • Make a sigil for a successful day in classes and in tests
  • Appeal to gods who are associated with wisdom or intelligence (I appeal to Athena)
  • Keep an intelligence or memory charm/sachet in your bag
  • Ground and center yourself when you get stressed.
  • Brew a tea as well to calm yourself
  • Do affirmations regularly (”I will pass this test”, “I will understand this concept” etc.)
  • Create a bubble/circle around your study area to ward off bad energy, distractions, and incorrect information
  • Do the same for around you and your desk during an exam!

✧witch tips✧

quietwitch:

i’ve been practicing witchcraft on and off for the past 3 years and i really want to share some of the tips and tricks i’ve learned to help other witches, especially new witches, so here we go:

i’ve got two words for you. bead. organizers. go to your local craft store and buy one for like 3 bucks and you have a really spacious way to organize any of your witchy materials. sure glass jars and bottles are cool, but save those for spells or particularly special ingredients.

birthday candles and tea lights are my best friend. I’m still partially in the broom closet, so i have limited time and space to work with when practicing my craft, and these bad boys are absolutely perfect. plus birthday candles come in colors which you can incorporate into your spells

mortar and pestle. i recently bought a one and it has improved my craft by like 500%. to new witches who are trying to figure out what they should purchase first, i highly recommend getting one. make sure you buy one that’s made for cooking even if you dont wish to consume anything you put in it, most sold in specialty shops aren’t effective at grinding(they’re too smooth). plus it just helps you feel more connected to your craft, which is always a bonus.

scented candles. like, it’s a completely inconspicuous way to practice witchcraft. burn a rose scented candle for love magic, an “ocean” scented one if you’re a water witch, a sage one for cleansing, the possibilities are endless. (and even for ones that are combinations of several scents, just google the magickal correlations of the individual ingredients and see what they mean to you when they’re combined, color of the candle can also play a role in it if you want it too)

cotton swabs/Qtips. if you reuse small containers these are a life saver, it saves you the time of having to wait for them to air dry. you can also use them to spread spells or etc, you can even use them as wands if you’re on a super tight budget(both air and cotton have correlations to air, and wands are generally considered instruments of the air)

fire salt. fire salt is one of the first things i made when i started practicing witchcraft, and honestly it’s one of my favorites. fire salt is just salt combined with spices like pepper, red pepper, cinnamon, or anything else you consider to correlate with fire. you can use fire salt as a substitute for live flames in a spell, or you can fill a dish with it if you want to honor/pray to a deity but you can’t light a candle.

hemp string/twine. for witches on a budget, hemp string can be found for really cheap at your local craft store, and it makes any project you’re working on feel 100% more witchy. and it’s not just for aesthetic purposes, hemp string tends to be less processed than other types of string, which will make everything you craft with it feel more natural and connected to the earth.

digital grimoires/book of shadows. this blog is mostly text posts for a reason. it’s not that i dont love all the aesthetic witchy pictures on tumblr, but for me personally it helps to have a ton of information in one place without the distraction of pretty pictures. plus tumblr allows you to easily find posts related to one subject through the tags, and since I’m an extremely lazy witch, i prefer this to handwriting everything.

♥♥♥i didn’t add a lot of stuff since i was trying to keep this post to a reasonable length, but if you have any questions please feel free to ask me! and if you have your own tips please add them on since I’m still learning myself lol. ♥♥♥
