Witches on a Budget

magicklytrans:

I’m gonna start posting Witch tips for people who don’t have a whole lot of money if anyone has suggestions, let me know.

So tip #1: making your own incense

I don’t always have enough money to buy incense, the only shop in town that sells it is a smoke shop that you can’t enter unless 19+ and they sell it for ten bucks for like 3 sticks. Plus, the incense is loaded with perfumes and chemicals which just aren’t my thing. So I’ve started making my own. It’s sooooo easy and most online tutorials are super expensive and complex.

*Crushing your herbs is optional

In a bowl, mix together the following ingredients
•dry (crushed) herbs of your choice (you can Google what kind of herbs to burn) I chose lavender, chamomile, and rosemary.
•honey (keep mixing in more honey until herbs create a thick paste)

After mixing, form into balls or cones and create a flat base.

Leave balls/cones to dry out for a few days.

Then once dry, place in incense burner and burn.

(Bonus, these last longer than the sticks and once it’s fully burned you can make incense with the ashes)

Witchy things to do when you’re low on spoons (part 2)

witch-auoria:

So I’m making a second one of this post because I’ve thought of a few more things and apparently there are many of you who found it helpful!

  • Chatting online – Talking to other witches about their craft can really help your motivation with your own practice, not to mention there are always more things to learn. If I’m struggling with energy but am feeling like doing something witchy I find that talking to other witches can sometimes replenish my energy a little bit and motivate me to do a little spell or some divination. Here are some places to find fellow witches to talk to!

– Here, on Tumblr! Many of the people in the community here on tumblr are incredibly friendly and inclusive, we are all here for each other. Just send people messages or asks and start up a conversation! Most of us really enjoy talking about our craft and welcome new friends. You are not being annoying, trust me.
– Discord is an app where people can join certain chat rooms if they have the link. There are quite a few witch servers on discord with more popping up constantly! If you do not feel comfortable in one there’s sure to be another that fits you better. Here is a link to one, https://discord.gg/G6UAHcb this one is called Hogwarts and it has a friendly vibe and topic orientated rooms, eg crystals, divination, etc. Come and join the family.
– Facebook. If, like me, you know exactly zero witches in real life you might seek out some local facebook groups. You can talk to them online for a bit and perhaps if you’re comfortable you can go to an event to meet them. Potentially great for meeting new witchy friends.

  • Movies and tv shows – The reality is that sometimes I just feel completely incapable of doing anything but sitting on my ass (or snuggling into bed) and watching something. There are plenty of witch themed movies and some TV series, they may not be realistic or accurate but it certainly helps me get into a witchy mood. There are also documentaries if that’s more your thing! Write your fave witchy thing to watch in the replies! Mine are Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic and Harry Potter.
  • Shopping – Sometimes it can really help if I get out of the house for awhile and have a change of scenery. Shopping is one of my favourite things to do but because of my illness it’s not like I have a great amount of funds for it. Here are some places where I buy my witchy things!

– Thrift stores. My #1 go to is Savers. They have a section for knick knacks and things like incense holders and candlesticks. I have bought things like a mortar and pestle, SO MANY candles, little decorative plates for offerings, an insane amount of second hand books, and even a little Bastet statue. The key is to look with an open mind and think of how you can incorporate every item into your practice.
– Dollar stores are amazing for stocking up on things like tea lights, oil burners and decorative pieces. Even fake flowers for your altar and photo frames to make a scrying mirror. Plus so cheap omg.
– Online. When I simply can’t go out I like to browse through Ebay, Etsy and other online witchy stores. Hunting around for the best bargain is easy as well, and even when I can’t afford to buy new things at the time I can just save them for later.

  • Journaling/Book of Shadows – Keeping a journal has really helped me with my practice. I like to write about my feelings for that day, keep track of how my energy is, and things I can do to improve. I have a seperate journal for these more personal writings and then my book of shadows, where I write down spells, corrospondences and the like. Working on my book of shadows takes little energy for me and massively boosts my witchy morale.
  • Lucid Dreaming/Astral Work – I admit I don’t know much about this subject but considering my illness makes me sleep a lot I have really been wanting to be able to do these things. I’m not sure how much energy it takes to do astral work, but I have been attempting lucid dreaming and I have to say it’s nice to put all that time wasted sleeping to some use.
  • Blogging! – I mean, we all do it already obviously, but gosh darn do I love blogging about witchy things. I usually transfer a lot of the info into my book of shadows as well. I have learned so much literally just by having a magic blog. Plus, it really doesn’t take any of my energy (unless I’m writing up a big post like this) and motivates me endlessly. Not to mention all the amazing witches you meet/admire secretly from afar.
  • Witch Bottles – I make these all the time when I have spare energy. I made one with tiny little polymer clay spoons to aid me when I’m especially low. They’re great for storing energy for a later date. They’re also really cheap and easy to make and can be for literally anything you can think of.
  • Art – Even if you don’t think you’re very good at drawing, every single piece of artwork holds energy and individuality. Sometimes when I feel particularly yucky I will doodle simple plants or other things I associate with health and will my own energy from that drawing into the intent of making me feel better. Honestly I’m not even sure if what I’m doing is even a spell or what, but it works for me.

So that’s all for this post, I really hope this helps at least one person out there. I know how much of a struggle it is to deal with low energy, but if my last post taught me anything it’s that we aren’t alone in this. Stay safe everyone, take care of yourself. Drink water and take medication. Don’t let witchcraft replace medicine. Of course feel free to comment with any other tips or anything, lets help each other. I love you all!

thewitchystuff:

To clean a room from bad vibes, there´s always different methods but I like to use a simple and more personal one.

First, gather dried herbs. It´s more special if it´s your favourite, since its your room. Mint, Eucalyptus, Rosemary , Lavender Buds, you choose.

Then, you have to burn them on a old frying pan or the herbs alone if you like, just be sure to turn out the fire quickly, the point is to leave the aromatic smoke.

Pass the herbs around each corner of the room while thinking of positive energy, of things that make you happy and give you peace of mind.

Lastly, once you are finished, open the windows and place the ashes and remains in a garden or the natural soil. It´s preferable to thanks the earth for letting you use the herbs to clean your place. .゚☆゚. – Bo

Visualisation

rowan-witch:

Visualisation is incredibly useful in witchcraft as it is the base of energy work. From this, you can do all kinds of practices.

You can use visualisation for meditation, astral travel, sending energy into objects and many other things. These will all be covered in the future.

So, how do I start?

Here’s a basic exercise for you to practice. It’s very simple and many of you will probably be able to pick it up easily if you’ve already done visualition techniques!

1.  You’ll need a very quiet area where you’ll be comfortable. Even lying in bed and putting white noise in your headphones is useful. Get rid of all distractions, put your phone on silent etc.

2.  Close your eyes and empty your mind. Your mind might feel like a blank sheet of paper, and you’re going to create something in there.

3.  Picture an apple, any old apple. Zoom in and see its shape,  it’s colour. Does it have leaves, more than one colour? Look at every tiny detail of the apple you’ve created.

4.  Next, take a knife and cut this apple in half. Focus on the detail inside:  the colour, how many seeds there are etc. The more detail, the better.

5.  Now you use your senses. What the apple feels like, smells like. Bite into it and taste it. You’re using visualisation to not only see the apple but understand everything about it.

From this, you’re able to visualise and interact with objects in your mind. Practice often with anything you like!

How do Witches Celebrate Birthdays?

My 30th birthday in January will also be my first birthday as a witch. Usually I throw a big birthday party, but this year I have been a bit of a hermit and focusing on me and my husband’s health. So I kind of want to make my 30th something personal yet special.

Some of my ideas to do on my Birthday (as a City Witch)

  • Have a session with a Psychic to talk about my upcoming year
  • Have a session with a Medium to connect with my friends and family who’ve died
  • Get a witch themed tattoo (I have a few ideas)
  • Get my Natal Chart read by a professional
  • Commission a portrait of my witchy self
  • Perform a good luck spell for the year
  • Make an herb bread with all the herbs and spices that would correlate to your intentions for the year. Share with the loved ones you wish to be with you throughout your year.
  • Candle magick, make up an ultimate birthday wish candle spell that is activated when you blow it out.
  • If you have deities, invite them to have a little birthday party with you. Have offerings for them to thank them for your year and to tell them your goals for the new year.
  • Recieve an aura cleanse through smoke, crystals, incense, or Reiki

What have you done to celebrate your birthday as a Witch?

Herbal candle DIY

These are good for rituals, scent or the aesthetic of it. Perfect custom altar additions, made just the way you like it.

What you will need:
-candles or candle wax
-herbs/flowers of your choice
-a spoon
-a heavy book
-a clothing iron
-parchment paper

Optional;
-essential oils
-food colouring

1. The first thing you want to do is gather herbs and flowers to put in your candle, whether it be for a spell, or ritual or for the scent or aesthetic of it.

2. The herbs must be dry herbs, you can dry them yourself if you like. Pick the flowers of your choice (make sure to dry out any excess moisture)

3. To press/dry the flowers (or leaves), you must press them between two pieces of parchment paper in a heavy book for 15-20 minutes, and then to dry them, run a clothing iron over the paper, keep checking on the flowers to make sure they are not burning so that they do not lose color. Once they are stiff and dry, they’re ready to go.

4. You can use wax chips/blocks or you can melt up an old candle. (BONUS: match the color of the wax to your intent (or add food colouring)).

5. Optional: add essential oils, match the scent to your intent if you wish.

6. Then pour the wax into a glass or mould of your choice, holding the wick in place manually or with a clip until the wax is COMPLETELY DRY.

7. Once the wax is dry, remove it from the mould .

8. Hold an old metal spoon over a flame to heat it. Using this spoon press the flowers into the wax, pressing as deep or as shallow as you like and you can move wax over bits of herb/flower to create your desired effect.

VIOLA! You have a goregeous looking and wonderful smelling candle, full of herbs with magickal attributes, which can be activated through lighting the wick.

Happy witching

✨ Mabon Altar Tips ✨

la-petitefille:

image

hi, angels! you didn’t think i forgot about Mabon, did you? the autumn equinox falls in September, typically ranging from the 21st to the 24th. this year, in 2017, it is occurring on the 22nd. Mabon is symbolic – it the first official day of Fall, as well as a time to show your thanks and count your blessings – a witch’s thanksgiving, if you will! the days and nights are now equal in length, and it is a wonderful period to celebrate such a balance. this was the first holiday i celebrated as a witch. it may even be my favourite holiday on the Wheel of the Year. Mabon is the pathway to a beautiful season, and the air offers a warm essence. it is full of good feelings: being extra appreciative of what you have, recognizing the potential you have to change, and being inspired to grow. with that said, here are some ideas to incorporate into your Mabon altar!:

🍂 colors. this is always the first thing my mind goes to when creating a themed altar! it is the basis for the whole feeling of your sacred space, and will help to get you in the mood for the season. oranges, reds, gold, browns, yellows, and deep purples are a few good fits. objects such as candles, cloths, ribbons, flowers, or statues in these colors are a few wonderful ideas.

🍂 imagery. for this particular time of year, some things you should incorporate include pumpkins, gourds, baskets, acorns, apple or pumpkin seeds, and corn/corn dolls, all of these things symbolize the second harvest, and should also get you in the right mood for the autumn season. if you like, try adding some collected fallen leaves and sticks, as well. (if you cannot add any of these objects in their natural forms, dollar and craft stores have faux or decorative versions of all of them)!

🍂 balance. after all, this is a time of year in which light and dark are at their balanced peak.  quartz on one side and obsidian on the other, a light and dark feather, dark and light pumpkins or gourds, a black candle and a white one – try including this symbolism in a creative way!

🍂 candles + incense. what altar is complete without some sort of candle? add ones in the colors of fall, or in yummy autumn scents. if you cannot add real candles to your altar, consider LED ones or fairy lights, spritzing a holiday scented spray around your space. for incense, try to include some scents such as myrrh, sage, pine, frankincense, sweetgrass, cinnamon, and even pumpkin.

🍂 herbs, spices, + crystals. add small dishes or bottles of herbs that compliment the season! marigold, sage, chamomile… just to name a few! citrine, clear quartz, amber, gold, or yellow topaz are a few crystal ideas to get started, as well.

🍂 food. once the actual holiday is closer, consider adding some fresh offerings in bowls or baskets, or on pretty plates/trays. food offerings may include grapes, apples, nuts, grains, and wine.

i hope this list is helpful! i absolutely love this time of year and the sentiment that it holds. remember to dwell more on what you have, rather than what you may not. blessed be, and have a wonderful season! )O(
