DIY bespoke flower crown

By LadyLand

Getting married soon? Use inexpensive baby’s breath (gypsophila) to make a beautiful floral headpiece, perfect for yourself, or your bridesmaids. It’s unbelievably easy, plus you can dry it afterwards and use again for festivals or fancy dress. Here’s how:

1. Take the longest stem of baby’s breath and pluck off all the flowers except the very end bunch.

2. Next, take a small bunch of the removed flowers and tape them to the stalk, close to the top bunch. Repeat all the way along the stem, fastening the ends of the previous bunch as you go.

3. When the stem is completely covered, bend it into a head-sized circle and fasten the ends with tape, tucking any remaining stem back into the crown and taping to secure – this will give your crown extra strength.

4. Fill any gaps with more flowers, then wrap a length of wide satin ribbon all the way around the crown in between each bunch of flowers.

5. Fasten the ribbon ends into a bow. Et voilà! Your flower crown is complete.

Hide and Go Pendulum

tarot-cards-and-tea:

Okay, so I already use my pendulums as a means to provide answers to questions, but I want to try my hand at using my pendulum to locate objects.

This is a little game I plan on using in the future.

What you need:

A friend or other person to play with
A pendulum
A map of the area (I hand drew a map of my house for this)

How to play:

It’s kind of like Hide and Go Seek, but instead of your friend hiding, give them an object. Your friend will then place this item somewhere in your designated boundaries. It’s important to use another person as your “hider” so your subconscious doesn’t affect your results.

Once your friend has hidden the object, hover your pendulum over the map, and see if you can feel it pulling you to the location of the item.

Alternatively, you could ask closed questions to determine some factors if you aren’t experiencing a pull right away. I.E. “Is (the item) on the first floor?” “Is (item) in the living room?”

Once you’ve located the room your item is in, go to that room and see if your pendulum will reveal the hiding place.

This game is designed to help you develop your intuition and further connect with your pendulum.

~ DIY Pendulum ~

the-daily-diviner:

To follow up my post on using pendulums, here’s one on making them! 😀

There are hundreds of ways to create a pendulum, and they are all fairly easy. Here are three simple methods to try out:

Needle and Thread Pendulum

What you’ll need:

  • One needle
  • A piece of thread

String your thread through your needle, knot it, and cut it to your desired length. Use as a pendulum.

Stone/Crystal Pendulum

What you’ll need:

  • One small crystals/stone
  • One piece of string/yarn/twine (thread is too thin, usually)

Wrap the string around your stone/crystal, and cut to your desired length. Or, if possible, create a hole through the stone and tie a string to that. Cut string and use as pendulum.

Pendant/Necklace Pendulum

What you’ll need:

  • One chain/necklace string with clasps
  • One charm from necklace (most have a ring on it)

Unclasp the necklace, remove the charm, and hook it to one end of the necklace. Hold the other end of the necklace, and use as a pendulum.

Ok but can we talk about how emo, as a genre, defied gender roles in a big way? Like, everything about the culture, from the guys wearing makeup and womens’ skinny jeans, to the way they got unabashedly emotional in spite of the “men aren’t supposed to cry” narrative they’d obviously been socialized with, was just this complete “fuck you” to the idea that there’s a certain way to be a “man”.

And a lot of their detractors called them “girly” or “gay”. And they didn’t give a fuck! Fall Out Boy has a whole song entitled “Gay Is Not A Synonym for Shitty”, which referenced a famous Pete Wentz quote, where he basically said that if you thought his band sucked, to just say it sucked, and not be a “homophobic asshole” about it.

And, then, geez, My Chemical Romance took it a step further, and Gerard Way outright kissed one of his bandmates at concerts purely to infuriate homophobes who were at his shows.

A lot of these bands were openly for LGBT rights, for womens’ rights. I remember one instance where some band MCR was touring with asked women to flash their tits in exchange for backstage passes. And Gerard was so horrified by this, and told his female fans to “spit in the faces” of misogynists in the rock scene.

Like, god, these bands were so progressive. And they still are. Right after the Pulse tragedy, Brendon Urie literally danced around in a pride flag and told his queer fans what they meant to him. Pete Wentz said that “Uma Thurman” was meant to show his female fans that they could be “badass”, too. And Gerard pretty much admitted in an interview to somewhat identifying with the label “nonbinary”.

That’s the most lasting impact that emo is going to have. Showing fans of all genders that there’s nothing wrong with being whoever the fuck you are, that there’s no specific way to be a man or woman. And, god, I just fucking love that.
